+    <heading>The Day of the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> Is Near</heading>

+    </verse>

+    <heading>The Kingdom of the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span></heading>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and those of the Shephelah shall possess <crossref let="h" cid="c31001019.4"/>the land of the Philistines;<end-line class="br"/>

+    <heading>The Advance of the Gospel</heading>

+    <verse num="12">I want you to know, brothers,<note nid="n50001012.1"/> that what has happened to me has really <crossref let="x" cid="c50001012.1"/>served to advance the gospel,</verse>

+    <verse num="13">so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard<note nid="n50001013.1"/> and <crossref let="y" cid="c50001013.1"/>to all the rest that <crossref let="z" cid="c50001013.2"/>my imprisonment is for Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="14">And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold <crossref let="a" cid="c50001014.1"/>to speak the word<note nid="n50001014.1"/> without fear.</verse>

+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="15"><crossref let="b" cid="c50001015.1"/>Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will.</verse>

+    <verse num="16">The latter do it out of love, <crossref let="c" cid="c50001016.1"/>knowing that I am put here for <crossref let="d" cid="c50001016.2"/>the defense of the gospel.</verse>

+    <verse num="17">The former proclaim Christ <crossref let="e" cid="c50001017.1"/>out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v50001018"/>
+    <verse num="18">What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <heading>To Live Is Christ</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+                      Yes, and I will rejoice,</verse>

+    <verse num="22">If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.</verse>

+    <verse num="24">But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.</verse>

+    <heading>Christ&apos;s Example of Humility</heading>

+    <verse num="3">Do nothing from <crossref let="k" cid="c50002003.1"/>selfish ambition or <crossref let="l" cid="c50002003.2"/>conceit, but in <crossref let="m" cid="c50002003.3"/>humility count others more significant than yourselves.</verse>

+    <verse num="4"><crossref let="s" cid="c50003004.1"/>though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:</verse>

+    <verse num="5"><crossref let="t" cid="c50003005.1"/>circumcised on the eighth day, <crossref let="u" cid="c50003005.2"/>of the people of Israel, <crossref let="v" cid="c50003005.3"/>of the tribe of Benjamin, <crossref let="u" cid="c50003005.4"/>a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, <crossref let="w" cid="c50003005.5"/>a Pharisee;</verse>

+    <verse num="7">But <crossref let="a" cid="c50003007.1"/>whatever gain I had, <crossref let="b" cid="c50003007.2"/>I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="8">Indeed, I count everything as loss because of <crossref let="c" cid="c50003008.1"/>the surpassing worth of <crossref let="d" cid="c50003008.2"/>knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. +    <verse num="10"><crossref let="h" cid="c50003010.1"/>that I may know him and <crossref let="i" cid="c50003010.2"/>the power of his resurrection, and <crossref let="j" cid="c50003010.3"/>may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,</verse>

+    <verse num="11">that by any means possible I may <crossref let="k" cid="c50003011.1"/>attain the resurrection from the dead.</verse>

+    <heading>Straining Toward the Goal</heading>

+    <verse num="12">Not that I have already <crossref let="l" cid="c50003012.1"/>obtained this or <crossref let="m" cid="c50003012.2"/>am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.</verse>

+    <verse num="13">Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: <crossref let="n" cid="c50003013.1"/>forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,</verse>

+    <verse num="14">I press on toward the goal for <crossref let="o" cid="c50003014.1"/>the prize of the upward <crossref let="p" cid="c50003014.2"/>call of God in Christ Jesus.</verse>

+    <verse num="15">Let those of us who are <crossref let="q" cid="c50003015.1"/>mature think this way, and if in anything <crossref let="r" cid="c50003015.2"/>you think otherwise, <crossref let="s" cid="c50003015.3"/>God will reveal that also to you.</verse>
