+    <heading>God of All Comfort</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="3"><crossref let="f" cid="c47001003.1"/>Blessed be the <crossref let="g" cid="c47001003.2"/>God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and <crossref let="h" cid="c47001003.3"/>God of all comfort,</verse>

+    <verse num="4"><crossref let="i" cid="c47001004.1"/>who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.</verse>

+    <verse num="5">For as we share abundantly in <crossref let="j" cid="c47001005.1"/>Christ&apos;s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.<note nid="n47001005.1"/></verse>

+    <verse num="6"><crossref let="k" cid="c47001006.1"/>If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.</verse>

+    <verse num="7">Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you <crossref let="l" cid="c47001007.1"/>share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.</verse>

+    <verse num="8">For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers,<note nid="n47001008.1"/> of <crossref let="m" cid="c47001008.1"/>the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us <crossref let="n" cid="c47001009.1"/>rely not on ourselves <crossref let="o" cid="c47001009.2"/>but on God <crossref let="p" cid="c47001009.3"/>who raises the dead.</verse>

+    <verse num="10"><crossref let="q" cid="c47001010.1"/>He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. <crossref let="r" cid="c47001010.2"/>On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.</verse>

+    <heading>Paul&apos;s Change of Plans</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="12">For our boast is this, <crossref let="u" cid="c47001012.1"/>the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity<note nid="n47001012.1"/> and <crossref let="v" cid="c47001012.2"/>godly sincerity, <crossref let="w" cid="c47001012.3"/>not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.</verse>

+    <verse num="13">For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand&emdash;</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47001014"/>
+    <verse num="14">just as you did <crossref let="x" cid="c47001014.1"/>partially understand us&emdash;that <crossref let="y" cid="c47001014.2"/>on the day of our Lord Jesus <crossref let="z" cid="c47001014.3"/>you will boast of us as <crossref let="a" cid="c47001014.4"/>we will boast of you.</verse>

+    <verse num="15">Because I was sure of this, <crossref let="b" cid="c47001015.1"/>I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have <crossref let="c" cid="c47001015.2"/>a second <crossref let="d" cid="c47001015.3"/>experience of grace.</verse>

+    <verse num="16">I wanted to visit you <crossref let="e" cid="c47001016.1"/>on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea.</verse>

+    <verse num="17">Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans <crossref let="f" cid="c47001017.1"/>according to the flesh, ready to say <q class="begin-double" qid="47001017.1" from="47001017.1" to="47001017.2"/>Yes, yes<q class="end-double" qid="47001017.2" from="47001017.1" to="47001017.2"/> and <q class="begin-double" qid="47001017.3" from="47001017.3" to="47001017.4"/>No, no<q class="end-double" qid="47001017.4" from="47001017.3" to="47001017.4"/> at the same time?</verse>

+    <verse num="18">As surely as <crossref let="g" cid="c47001018.1"/>God is faithful, <crossref let="h" cid="c47001018.2"/>our word to you has not been Yes and No.</verse>

+    <verse num="19">For <crossref let="i" cid="c47001019.1"/>the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, <crossref let="j" cid="c47001019.2"/>Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but <crossref let="k" cid="c47001019.3"/>in him it is always Yes.</verse>

+    <verse num="20">For <crossref let="l" cid="c47001020.1"/>all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our <crossref let="m" cid="c47001020.2"/>Amen to God for his glory.</verse>

+    <verse num="21">And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and <crossref let="n" cid="c47001021.1"/>has anointed us,</verse>

+    <verse num="23">But <crossref let="q" cid="c47001023.1"/>I call God to witness against me&emdash;it was <crossref let="r" cid="c47001023.2"/>to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth.</verse>

+    <verse num="24">Not that we <crossref let="s" cid="c47001024.1"/>lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm <crossref let="t" cid="c47001024.2"/>in your faith.</verse>

+  <chapter num="2">
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1">For I made up my mind <crossref let="u" cid="c47002001.1"/>not to make another painful visit to you.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002002"/>
+    <verse num="2">For <crossref let="v" cid="c47002002.1"/>if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002003"/>
+    <verse num="3">And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, <crossref let="w" cid="c47002003.1"/>for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002004"/>
+    <verse num="4">For <crossref let="x" cid="c47002004.1"/>I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002005"/>
+    <heading>Forgive the Sinner</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="5">Now <crossref let="y" cid="c47002005.1"/>if anyone has caused pain, <crossref let="z" cid="c47002005.2"/>he has caused it not to me, but <crossref let="a" cid="c47002005.3"/>in some measure&emdash;not to put it too severely&emdash;to all of you.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002006"/>
+    <verse num="6">For such a one, <crossref let="b" cid="c47002006.1"/>this punishment by the majority is enough,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002007"/>
+    <verse num="7">so <crossref let="c" cid="c47002007.1"/>you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002008"/>
+    <verse num="8">So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002009"/>
+    <verse num="9">For this is why I wrote, that I might <crossref let="d" cid="c47002009.1"/>test you and know <crossref let="e" cid="c47002009.2"/>whether you are obedient in everything.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002010"/>
+    <verse num="10">Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002011"/>
+    <verse num="11">so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for <crossref let="f" cid="c47002011.1"/>we are not ignorant of his designs.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002012"/>
+    <heading>Triumph in Christ</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="12">When <crossref let="g" cid="c47002012.1"/>I came to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ, even though <crossref let="h" cid="c47002012.2"/>a door was opened for me in the Lord,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002013"/>
+    <verse num="13">my spirit <crossref let="i" cid="c47002013.1"/>was not at rest because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took leave of them and went on to Macedonia.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002014"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="14">But <crossref let="j" cid="c47002014.1"/>thanks be to God, who in Christ always <crossref let="k" cid="c47002014.2"/>leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads <crossref let="l" cid="c47002014.3"/>the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002015"/>
+    <verse num="15">For we are the aroma of Christ to God among <crossref let="m" cid="c47002015.1"/>those who are being saved and among <crossref let="n" cid="c47002015.2"/>those who are perishing,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002016"/>
+    <verse num="16"><crossref let="o" cid="c47002016.1"/>to one a fragrance from death to death, <crossref let="o" cid="c47002016.2"/>to the other a fragrance from life to life. <crossref let="p" cid="c47002016.3"/>Who is sufficient for these things?</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47002017"/>
+    <verse num="17">For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God&apos;s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.</verse>

+  </chapter>
+  <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003001"/>
+  <chapter num="3">
+    <heading>Ministers of the New Covenant</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1"><crossref let="q" cid="c47003001.1"/>Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, <crossref let="r" cid="c47003001.2"/>as some do, <crossref let="s" cid="c47003001.3"/>letters of recommendation to you, or from you?</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003002"/>
+    <verse num="2"><crossref let="t" cid="c47003002.1"/>You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our<note nid="n47003002.1"/> hearts, to be known and read by all.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003003"/>
+    <verse num="3">And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of <crossref let="u" cid="c47003003.1"/>the living God, not on <crossref let="v" cid="c47003003.2"/>tablets of stone but on <crossref let="w" cid="c47003003.3"/>tablets of <crossref let="x" cid="c47003003.4"/>human hearts.<note nid="n47003003.1"/></verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003004"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="4"><crossref let="y" cid="c47003004.1"/>Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003005"/>
+    <verse num="5"><crossref let="z" cid="c47003005.1"/>Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but <crossref let="a" cid="c47003005.2"/>our sufficiency is from God,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003006"/>
+    <verse num="6">who has made us sufficient to be <crossref let="b" cid="c47003006.1"/>ministers of <crossref let="c" cid="c47003006.2"/>a new covenant, not of <crossref let="d" cid="c47003006.3"/>the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but <crossref let="e" cid="c47003006.4"/>the Spirit gives life.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003007"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="7">Now if <crossref let="f" cid="c47003007.1"/>the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory <crossref let="g" cid="c47003007.2"/>that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses&apos; face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003008"/>
+    <verse num="8">will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory?</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003009"/>
+    <verse num="9">For if there was glory in <crossref let="h" cid="c47003009.1"/>the ministry of condemnation, <crossref let="i" cid="c47003009.2"/>the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003010"/>
+    <verse num="10">Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003011"/>
+    <verse num="11">For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003012"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="12">Since we have such a hope, <crossref let="j" cid="c47003012.1"/>we are very bold,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003013"/>
+    <verse num="13">not like Moses, <crossref let="k" cid="c47003013.1"/>who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003014"/>
+    <verse num="14">But <crossref let="l" cid="c47003014.1"/>their minds were <crossref let="m" cid="c47003014.2"/>hardened. For to this day, <crossref let="n" cid="c47003014.3"/>when they read <crossref let="o" cid="c47003014.4"/>the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003015"/>
+    <verse num="15">Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003016"/>
+    <verse num="16">But when <crossref let="p" cid="c47003016.1"/>one<note nid="n47003016.1"/> turns to the Lord, <crossref let="q" cid="c47003016.2"/>the veil is removed.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003017"/>
+    <verse num="17">Now the Lord<note nid="n47003017.1"/> is the Spirit, and where <crossref let="r" cid="c47003017.1"/>the Spirit of the Lord is, there is <crossref let="s" cid="c47003017.2"/>freedom.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47003018"/>
+    <verse num="18">And we all, with unveiled face, <crossref let="t" cid="c47003018.1"/>beholding <crossref let="u" cid="c47003018.2"/>the glory of the Lord,<note nid="n47003018.1"/> <crossref let="v" cid="c47003018.3"/>are being transformed into the same image <crossref let="w" cid="c47003018.4"/>from one degree of glory to another.<note nid="n47003018.2"/> For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+  </chapter>
+  <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004001"/>
+  <chapter num="4">
+    <heading>The Light of the Gospel</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1">Therefore, having <crossref let="x" cid="c47004001.1"/>this ministry <crossref let="y" cid="c47004001.2"/>by the mercy of God,<note nid="n47004001.1"/> we do not lose heart.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004002"/>
+    <verse num="2">But we have renounced <crossref let="z" cid="c47004002.1"/>disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice<note nid="n47004002.1"/> cunning or <crossref let="a" cid="c47004002.2"/>to tamper with God&apos;s word, but <crossref let="b" cid="c47004002.3"/>by the open statement of the truth <crossref let="c" cid="c47004002.4"/>we would commend ourselves to everyone&apos;s conscience in the sight of God.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004003"/>
+    <verse num="3">And even <crossref let="d" cid="c47004003.1"/>if our gospel is veiled, <crossref let="e" cid="c47004003.2"/>it is veiled to <crossref let="f" cid="c47004003.3"/>those who are perishing.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004004"/>
+    <verse num="4">In their case <crossref let="g" cid="c47004004.1"/>the god of this world <crossref let="d" cid="c47004004.2"/>has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing <crossref let="h" cid="c47004004.3"/>the light of <crossref let="i" cid="c47004004.4"/>the gospel of the glory of Christ, <crossref let="j" cid="c47004004.5"/>who is the image of God.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004005"/>
+    <verse num="5">For what <crossref let="k" cid="c47004005.1"/>we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with <crossref let="l" cid="c47004005.2"/>ourselves as your servants<note nid="n47004005.1"/> for Jesus&apos; sake.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004006"/>
+    <verse num="6">For God, who said, <crossref let="m" cid="c47004006.1"/><q class="begin-double" qid="47004006.1" from="47004006.1" to="47004006.2"/>Let light shine out of darkness,<q class="end-double" qid="47004006.2" from="47004006.1" to="47004006.2"/> <crossref let="n" cid="c47004006.2"/>has shone in our hearts to give <crossref let="o" cid="c47004006.3"/>the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004007"/>
+    <heading>Treasure in Jars of Clay</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="7">But we have this treasure in <crossref let="p" cid="c47004007.1"/>jars of clay, <crossref let="q" cid="c47004007.2"/>to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004008"/>
+    <verse num="8">We are <crossref let="r" cid="c47004008.1"/>afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004009"/>
+    <verse num="9">persecuted, but <crossref let="s" cid="c47004009.1"/>not forsaken; <crossref let="t" cid="c47004009.2"/>struck down, but not destroyed;</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004010"/>
+    <verse num="10"><crossref let="u" cid="c47004010.1"/>always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, <crossref let="v" cid="c47004010.2"/>so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004011"/>
+    <verse num="11">For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus&apos; sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004012"/>
+    <verse num="12">So <crossref let="w" cid="c47004012.1"/>death is at work in us, but life in you.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004013"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="13">Since we have <crossref let="x" cid="c47004013.1"/>the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, <crossref let="y" cid="c47004013.2"/><crossref cid="t47004013.1"/><q class="begin-double" qid="47004013.1" from="47004013.1" to="47004013.2"/>I believed, and so I spoke,<q class="end-double" qid="47004013.2" from="47004013.1" to="47004013.2"/> we also believe, and so we also speak,</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004014"/>
+    <verse num="14">knowing that <crossref let="z" cid="c47004014.1"/>he who raised the Lord Jesus <crossref let="a" cid="c47004014.2"/>will raise us also with Jesus and <crossref let="b" cid="c47004014.3"/>bring us with you into his presence.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004015"/>
+    <verse num="15">For <crossref let="c" cid="c47004015.1"/>it is all for your sake, so that as <crossref let="d" cid="c47004015.2"/>grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, <crossref let="e" cid="c47004015.3"/>to the glory of God.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47004016"/>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="16">So we do not lose heart. <crossref let="f" cid="c47004016.1"/>Though our outer self<note nid="n47004016.1"/> is wasting away, <crossref let="g" cid="c47004016.2"/>our inner self <crossref let="h" cid="c47004016.3"/>is being renewed day by day.</verse>

+    <verse num="17">For <crossref let="i" cid="c47004017.1"/>this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,</verse>

+    <verse num="18"><crossref let="j" cid="c47004018.1"/>as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.</verse>

+  <chapter num="5">
+    <heading>Our Heavenly Dwelling</heading>

+    <verse num="5">He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, <crossref let="q" cid="c47005005.1"/>who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to <crossref let="v" cid="c47005009.1"/>please him.</verse>

+    <verse num="10">For <crossref let="w" cid="c47005010.1"/>we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, <crossref let="x" cid="c47005010.2"/>so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.</verse>

+    <heading>The Ministry of Reconciliation</heading>

+    <verse num="11">Therefore, knowing <crossref let="y" cid="c47005011.1"/>the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But <crossref let="z" cid="c47005011.2"/>what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.</verse>

+    <verse num="12"><crossref let="a" cid="c47005012.1"/>We are not commending ourselves to you again but <crossref let="b" cid="c47005012.2"/>giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart.</verse>

+    <verse num="13">For if we <crossref let="c" cid="c47005013.1"/>are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.</verse>

+    <heading>Encouragement to Give Generously</heading>

+    <verse num="2">for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and <crossref let="i" cid="c47008002.1"/>their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.</verse>

+    <verse num="3">For they gave <crossref let="j" cid="c47008003.1"/>according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord,</verse>

+    <verse num="11">So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.</verse>

+    <verse num="13">For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness</verse>

+    <heading>Commendation of Titus</heading>

+    <verse num="16">But <crossref let="z" cid="c47008016.1"/>thanks be to God, <crossref let="a" cid="c47008016.2"/>who put into the heart of Titus the same earnest care I have for you.</verse>

+    <verse num="17">For <crossref let="b" cid="c47008017.1"/>he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going<note nid="n47008017.1"/> to you of his own accord.</verse>

+    <verse num="20">We take this course so that no one should blame us about this generous gift that is being administered by us,</verse>

+    <verse num="21">for <crossref let="h" cid="c47008021.1"/>we aim at what is honorable <crossref let="i" cid="c47008021.2"/>not only in the Lord&apos;s sight but also in the sight of man.</verse>

+    <verse num="22">And with them we are sending our brother whom we have often tested and found earnest in many matters, but who is now more earnest than ever because of his great confidence in you.</verse>

+    <heading>The Cheerful Giver</heading>

+    <heading>Paul and the False Apostles</heading>

+    <verse num="1">I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me!</verse>

+    <verse num="2">For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since <crossref let="n" cid="c47011002.1"/>I betrothed you to one husband, <crossref let="o" cid="c47011002.2"/>to present you <crossref let="p" cid="c47011002.3"/>as a pure virgin to Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="3">But I am afraid that <crossref let="q" cid="c47011003.1"/>as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts <crossref let="r" cid="c47011003.2"/>will be led astray from a <crossref let="s" cid="c47011003.3"/>sincere and <crossref let="t" cid="c47011003.4"/>pure devotion to Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="4">For if someone comes and <crossref let="u" cid="c47011004.1"/>proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept <crossref let="v" cid="c47011004.2"/>a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.</verse>

+    <verse num="8">I robbed other churches by accepting support from them in order to serve you.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">And when I was with you and was <crossref let="c" cid="c47011009.1"/>in need, <crossref let="d" cid="c47011009.2"/>I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia <crossref let="e" cid="c47011009.3"/>supplied my need. +    <verse num="11">And why? <crossref let="i" cid="c47011011.1"/>Because I do not love you? <crossref let="j" cid="c47011011.2"/>God knows I do!</verse>

+    <verse num="12">And what I am doing I will continue to do, <crossref let="k" cid="c47011012.1"/>in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do.</verse>

+    <verse num="13">For such men are <crossref let="l" cid="c47011013.1"/>false apostles, <crossref let="m" cid="c47011013.2"/>deceitful workmen, <crossref let="n" cid="c47011013.3"/>disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="14">And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as <crossref let="o" cid="c47011014.1"/>an angel of light.</verse>

+    <verse num="15">So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as <crossref let="p" cid="c47011015.1"/>servants of righteousness. <crossref let="q" cid="c47011015.2"/>Their end will correspond to their deeds.</verse>

+    <heading>Paul&apos;s Sufferings as an Apostle</heading>

+    <verse num="16">I repeat, <crossref let="r" cid="c47011016.1"/>let no one think me foolish. But even if you do, accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast a little.</verse>

+    <verse num="17">What I am saying <crossref let="s" cid="c47011017.1"/>with this boastful confidence, <crossref let="t" cid="c47011017.2"/>I say not as the Lord would<note nid="n47011017.1"/> but as a fool.</verse>

+    <heading>Paul&apos;s Visions and His Thorn</heading>

+    <verse num="1">I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and <crossref let="x" cid="c47012001.1"/>revelations of the Lord.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v47012002"/>
+    <verse num="2">I know a man <crossref let="y" cid="c47012002.1"/>in Christ who fourteen years ago was <crossref let="z" cid="c47012002.2"/>caught up to <crossref let="a" cid="c47012002.3"/>the third heaven&emdash;whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, <crossref let="b" cid="c47012002.4"/>God knows.</verse>

+    <heading>Final Warnings</heading>
