+    <heading>Thanksgiving</heading>

+    <heading>The Judgment at Christ&apos;s Coming</heading>

+    <heading>The Man of Lawlessness</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1">Now concerning <crossref let="a" cid="c53002001.1"/>the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our <crossref let="b" cid="c53002001.2"/>being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers,<note nid="n53002001.1"/></verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53002002"/>
+    <verse num="2">not to be quickly shaken in mind or <crossref let="c" cid="c53002002.1"/>alarmed, either <crossref let="d" cid="c53002002.2"/>by a spirit or a <crossref let="e" cid="c53002002.3"/>spoken word, or <crossref let="e" cid="c53002002.4"/>a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that <crossref let="f" cid="c53002002.5"/>the day of the Lord has come.</verse>

+    <verse num="3"><crossref let="g" cid="c53002003.1"/>Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, <crossref let="h" cid="c53002003.2"/>unless the rebellion comes first, and <crossref let="i" cid="c53002003.3"/>the man of lawlessness<note nid="n53002003.1"/> is revealed, <crossref let="j" cid="c53002003.4"/>the son of destruction,<note nid="n53002003.2"/></verse>

+    <verse num="4">who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, <crossref let="k" cid="c53002004.1"/>proclaiming himself to be God.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53002005"/>
+    <verse num="5">Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53002006"/>
+    <verse num="6">And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53002007"/>
+    <verse num="7">For <crossref let="l" cid="c53002007.1"/>the mystery of lawlessness <crossref let="m" cid="c53002007.2"/>is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53002008"/>
+    <verse num="8">And then <crossref let="n" cid="c53002008.1"/>the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus <crossref let="o" cid="c53002008.2"/>will kill with <crossref let="p" cid="c53002008.3"/>the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by <crossref let="q" cid="c53002008.4"/>the appearance of his coming.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan <crossref let="r" cid="c53002009.1"/>with all power and false signs and wonders,</verse>

+    <verse num="10">and with all wicked deception for <crossref let="s" cid="c53002010.1"/>those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.</verse>

+    <verse num="11">Therefore <crossref let="t" cid="c53002011.1"/>God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe <crossref let="u" cid="c53002011.2"/>what is false,</verse>

+    <verse num="12">in order that all may be condemned <crossref let="v" cid="c53002012.1"/>who did not believe the truth but <crossref let="w" cid="c53002012.2"/>had pleasure in unrighteousness.</verse>

+    <heading>Stand Firm</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="13">But <crossref let="x" cid="c53002013.1"/>we ought always to give thanks to God for you, <crossref let="y" cid="c53002013.2"/>brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you <crossref let="z" cid="c53002013.3"/>as the firstfruits<note nid="n53002013.1"/> <crossref let="a" cid="c53002013.4"/>to be saved, <crossref let="b" cid="c53002013.5"/>through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.</verse>

+    <verse num="14">To this he called you through <crossref let="c" cid="c53002014.1"/>our gospel, <crossref let="a" cid="c53002014.2"/>so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.</verse>

+    <verse num="15">So then, brothers, <crossref let="d" cid="c53002015.1"/>stand firm and hold to <crossref let="e" cid="c53002015.2"/>the traditions that you were taught by us, either <crossref let="f" cid="c53002015.3"/>by our spoken word or by <crossref let="f" cid="c53002015.4"/>our letter.</verse>

+    <heading>Pray for Us</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1">Finally, brothers,<note nid="n53003001.1"/> <crossref let="j" cid="c53003001.1"/>pray for us, that <crossref let="k" cid="c53003001.2"/>the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored,<note nid="n53003001.2"/> as happened among you,</verse>

+    <verse num="2">and <crossref let="l" cid="c53003002.1"/>that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For <crossref let="m" cid="c53003002.2"/>not all have faith.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53003003"/>
+    <verse num="3">But <crossref let="n" cid="c53003003.1"/>the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and <crossref let="o" cid="c53003003.2"/>guard you against <crossref let="p" cid="c53003003.3"/>the evil one.<note nid="n53003003.1"/></verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53003004"/>
+    <verse num="4">And <crossref let="q" cid="c53003004.1"/>we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command.</verse>

+    <verse num="5">May the Lord <crossref let="r" cid="c53003005.1"/>direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.</verse>
+    <end-paragraph/>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v53003006"/>
+    <heading>Warning Against Idleness</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="6">Now we command you, brothers, <crossref let="s" cid="c53003006.1"/>in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, <crossref let="t" cid="c53003006.2"/>that you keep away from any <crossref let="u" cid="c53003006.3"/>brother <crossref let="v" cid="c53003006.4"/>who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.</verse>

+    <verse num="7">For you yourselves know <crossref let="w" cid="c53003007.1"/>how you ought to imitate us, because <crossref let="x" cid="c53003007.2"/>we were not idle when we were with you,</verse>

+    <verse num="8">nor did we eat anyone&apos;s bread without paying for it, but <crossref let="y" cid="c53003008.1"/>with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">It was <crossref let="z" cid="c53003009.1"/>not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves <crossref let="a" cid="c53003009.2"/>an example to imitate.</verse>

+    <verse num="10">For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: <crossref let="b" cid="c53003010.1"/>If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.</verse>

+    <verse num="11">For we hear that some among you <crossref let="c" cid="c53003011.1"/>walk in idleness, not busy at work, but <crossref let="d" cid="c53003011.2"/>busybodies.</verse>

+    <verse num="12">Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.<note nid="n53003012.1"/></verse>

+    <verse num="13">As for you, brothers, <crossref let="e" cid="c53003013.1"/>do not grow weary in doing good.</verse>

+    <heading>Godlessness in the Last Days</heading>

+    <verse num="2">For people will be <crossref let="z" cid="c55003002.1"/>lovers of self, <crossref let="a" cid="c55003002.2"/>lovers of money, <crossref let="b" cid="c55003002.3"/>proud, <crossref let="b" cid="c55003002.4"/>arrogant, abusive, <crossref let="b" cid="c55003002.5"/>disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,</verse>

+    <verse num="3"><crossref let="c" cid="c55003003.1"/>heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, <crossref let="d" cid="c55003003.2"/>not loving good,</verse>

+    <verse num="4">treacherous, reckless, <crossref let="e" cid="c55003004.1"/>swollen with conceit, <crossref let="f" cid="c55003004.2"/>lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,</verse>

+    <verse num="5">having the appearance of godliness, but <crossref let="g" cid="c55003005.1"/>denying its power. <crossref let="h" cid="c55003005.2"/>Avoid such people.</verse>

+    <verse num="6">For among them are <crossref let="i" cid="c55003006.1"/>those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,</verse>

+    <verse num="7">always learning and never able to <crossref let="j" cid="c55003007.1"/>arrive at a knowledge of the truth.</verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v55003008"/>
+    <verse num="8">Just as <crossref let="k" cid="c55003008.1"/>Jannes and Jambres <crossref let="l" cid="c55003008.2"/>opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, <crossref let="m" cid="c55003008.3"/>men corrupted in mind and <crossref let="n" cid="c55003008.4"/>disqualified regarding the faith.</verse>

+    <verse num="9">But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, <crossref let="o" cid="c55003009.1"/>as was that of those two men.</verse>

+    <heading>All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God</heading>
