+    <heading>Hosea&apos;s Wife and Children</heading>

+    <verse num="2">When the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> first spoke through Hosea, the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> said to Hosea, <crossref let="c" cid="c28001002.1"/><q class="begin-double" qid="28001002.1" from="28001002.1" to="28001002.2"/>Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have <crossref let="d" cid="c28001002.2"/>children of whoredom, for <crossref let="e" cid="c28001002.3"/>the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span>.<q class="end-double" qid="28001002.2" from="28001002.1" to="28001002.2"/></verse>

+    <verse num="3">So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.</verse>

+    <verse num="4">And the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> said to him, <q class="begin-double" qid="28001004.1" from="28001004.1" to="28001005.1"/>Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while <crossref let="f" cid="c28001004.1"/>I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and <crossref let="g" cid="c28001004.2"/>I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.</verse>

+    <heading>Israel&apos;s Unfaithfulness Punished</heading>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and I am not her husband&emdash;<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>that she put away <crossref let="a" cid="c28002002.2"/>her whoring from her face,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and her adultery from between her breasts;<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and make her like a parched land,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and kill her with thirst.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>she who conceived them has acted shamefully.<end-line class="br"/>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and <crossref let="k" cid="c28002006.2"/>I will build a wall against her,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>so that she cannot find her paths.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+        <begin-line/>She shall pursue her lovers<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>but not overtake them,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>and she shall seek them<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>but shall not find them.<end-line class="br"/>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>that it was <crossref let="o" cid="c28002008.2"/>I who gave her<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/><crossref let="p" cid="c28002008.3"/>the grain, the wine, and the oil,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>and who lavished on <crossref let="q" cid="c28002008.4"/>her silver and gold,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/><crossref let="r" cid="c28002008.5"/>which they used for Baal.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+    <verse num="9">
+        <begin-line/>Therefore <crossref let="s" cid="c28002009.1"/>I will take back<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>my grain in its time,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and my wine in its season,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>and <crossref let="s" cid="c28002009.2"/>I will take away my wool and my flax,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>which were to cover her nakedness.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+        <begin-line/>Now <crossref let="t" cid="c28002010.1"/>I will uncover her lewdness<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>in the sight of her lovers,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and no one shall rescue her out of my hand.<end-line class="br"/>

+        <begin-line/><crossref let="u" cid="c28002011.1"/>And I will put an end to all her mirth,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>her feasts, her <crossref let="v" cid="c28002011.2"/>new moons, her <crossref let="v" cid="c28002011.3"/>Sabbaths,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and all her <crossref let="w" cid="c28002011.4"/>appointed feasts.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+    <verse num="12">
+        <begin-line/>And <crossref let="x" cid="c28002012.1"/>I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/><crossref let="y" cid="c28002012.2"/>of which she said,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/><q class="begin-single" qid="28002012.1" from="28002012.1" to="28002012.2"/>These are <crossref let="z" cid="c28002012.3"/>my wages,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>which my lovers have given me.<q class="end-single" qid="28002012.2" from="28002012.1" to="28002012.2"/><end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>I will make them a forest,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/><crossref let="a" cid="c28002012.4"/>and the beasts of the field shall devour them.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+    <verse num="13">
+        <begin-line/>And <crossref let="b" cid="c28002013.1"/>I will punish her for <crossref let="c" cid="c28002013.2"/>the feast days of the Baals<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>when she burned offerings to them<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>and <crossref let="d" cid="c28002013.3"/>adorned herself with her ring and jewelry,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and went after her lovers<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and forgot me, declares the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span>.<end-line/>
+    </verse>

+    <heading>The <span class="divine-name">Lord</span>&apos;s Mercy on Israel</heading>

+    <begin-paragraph class="line-group"/>
+    <verse num="14">
+        <begin-line/><q class="continue-double" qid="28002014.1" from="28002002.1" to="28002023.5"/>Therefore, behold, I will allure her,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and <crossref let="e" cid="c28002014.1"/>bring her into the wilderness,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and <crossref let="f" cid="c28002014.2"/>speak tenderly to her.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+    <verse num="15">
+        <begin-line/>And there I will give her her vineyards<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and make the Valley of Achor<note nid="n28002015.1"/> a door of hope.<end-line class="br"/>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.<end-line/>

+    <verse num="17">For <crossref let="i" cid="c28002017.1"/>I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more.</verse>

+    <verse num="18">And <crossref let="j" cid="c28002018.1"/>I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. +    <heading>Hosea Redeems His Wife</heading>
+    <begin-paragraph/>
+    <verse num="1">And the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> said to me, <crossref let="x" cid="c28003001.1"/><q class="begin-double" qid="28003001.1" from="28003001.1" to="28003001.2"/>Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins.<q class="end-double" qid="28003001.2" from="28003001.1" to="28003001.2"/></verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v28003002"/>
+    <verse num="2">So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a <crossref let="y" cid="c28003002.1"/>homer and a lethech<note nid="n28003002.1"/> of barley.</verse>

+    <heading>The <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> Accuses Israel</heading>

+        <begin-line/><crossref let="k" cid="c28004001.1"/>Hear the word of the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span>, O children of Israel,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>for <crossref let="l" cid="c28004001.2"/>the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line/>There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and <crossref let="m" cid="c28004001.3"/>no knowledge of God in the land;<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>
+    <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v28004002"/>
+    <verse num="2">
+        <begin-line/><crossref let="n" cid="c28004002.1"/>there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>they break all bounds, and <crossref let="o" cid="c28004002.2"/>bloodshed follows bloodshed.<end-line class="br"/>
+    </verse>

+    <verse num="3">
+        <begin-line/>Therefore <crossref let="p" cid="c28004003.1"/>the land mourns,<end-line class="br"/>
+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and all who dwell in it languish,<end-line class="br"/>

+        <begin-line class="indent"/>and the birds of the heavens,<end-line class="br"/>
