+## Behavioral activation
+
+Depression and anxiety both involve behavioral withdrawal that maintains the problem.
+
+- Depression: withdrawal from activities that gave you pleasure → less pleasure → more depression.
+- Anxiety: avoidance of feared situations → short-term relief → maintains the fear long-term.
+
+**Behavioral activation for depression:**
+
+1. List activities you used to enjoy or that give a sense of accomplishment.
+2. Schedule them in small doses, even when motivation is zero.
+3. Track mood before and after.
+4. Insight: action produces motivation, not the reverse.

+**Exposure for anxiety:**
+
+1. Create a fear hierarchy: situations ranked from least to most anxiety-provoking.
+2. Gradually expose yourself to each level, starting at the bottom.

+**Activity scheduling:** Don't wait to feel motivated. Schedule activities, rate pleasure and mastery (0-10) after.
