+### 2. Apply a skill
+
+Each task type has a playbook in `skills/`. Open the matching skill before starting:

+### 3. Cite sources
+
+When you reference a pattern from `ant-design`, `mui`, or `shadcn-ui`, cite the exact file path under `refs/`. Never invent component APIs — if a claim is not backed by `refs/` or `knowledge/`, mark it `(judgment, not sourced)`.
+
+### 4. Output format
+
+- **Default to Markdown** for specs, audits, and recommendations. Tables for comparisons. Code blocks for tokens (JSON, CSS variables, Tailwind config).
+- For design tokens, output in **all four formats**: W3C DTCG JSON, CSS custom properties, Tailwind config, and Style Dictionary source — unless the user requests one.
+- For component specs, follow the template in `skills/component-spec-writer/TEMPLATE.md`.
+- Never invent file paths or component names. If unsure, search.
+
+### 5. Use MCPs when available
+
+If the agent's environment has MCP servers connected (Figma, Notion, GitHub, Slack, Linear), prefer them over manual workflows. Each design-ai skill detects MCP availability and uses it transparently.

+### 6. Accessibility is not optional
+
+Every recommendation must clear WCAG 2.1 AA. Contrast ratios stated explicitly (e.g., "4.5:1 on `--color-bg-default`"). Focus states defined. Touch targets ≥ 44×44pt. Screen-reader behavior described for non-trivial widgets.
+
+## What NOT to do
+
+- Don't reproduce more than ~15 words verbatim from any `refs/` file. Paraphrase, attribute, link.
+- Don't recommend a color, font, or component without checking it against `knowledge/` first.
+- Don't write generic advice ("use whitespace generously"). Every claim should be specific and actionable.
+- Don't ship a deliverable without a contrast check, a keyboard-nav note, and a responsive note.
+
+## Refreshing knowledge
+
+If `refs/` was updated and `knowledge/` is stale, run:
+

+This re-derives `knowledge/` from `refs/`. Knowledge files are **generated artifacts** unless marked `<!-- hand-written -->` at the top.
+
+## Project conventions
+
+- Markdown over prose docs. One topic per file. Files under 400 lines.
+- File names: `kebab-case.md`. Directories: `kebab-case/`.
+- Front-matter: every knowledge file starts with YAML frontmatter (`title`, `source`, `extracted_at`).
+- Keep `refs/` read-only. Never edit upstream source material.
