+**Mode 1 — Inline text content (default):**
+Set `InputMode` to `Content` and provide the `Text` string. `FileName` and `ResourceFile` are hidden.

+**Mode 2 — Text from a local file path:**
+Set `InputMode` to `File` and provide `FileName`. `Text` is hidden. `FileName` and `ResourceFile` are mutually exclusive (`[OverloadGroup]`).
+
+**Mode 3 — Text from a file resource:**
+Set `InputMode` to `File` and provide `ResourceFile`. `Text` is hidden.
+
+The same three modes apply independently to `HeaderInputMode` and `FooterInputMode`.

+These properties appear or change behavior based on other property values (controlled by ViewModel rules and dependencies):

+- **`Text`** (InArgument\<string\>) — Visible only when `InputMode` is `Content`. When `InputMode` switches to `File`, `Text` is hidden and the `Item` (FileName/ResourceFile) fields appear.

+## Notes
+
+- `FileName` and `ResourceFile` are decorated with `[OverloadGroup]` — at most one may be bound at runtime.
+- The `KeepBackground` property inherited from the base class is hidden for this activity because background styling is not applicable to plain-text conversion.
+- `Scale` must be ≥ 0.1 and ≤ 2. Values outside this range will cause a runtime error.
+- When `OutputFileName` is omitted, a default PDF file name is generated in the current working directory.
+- Header and footer HTML templates have their own independent `InputMode` selectors (`HeaderInputMode`, `FooterInputMode`).

+## Notes
+
+- `FileName` and `ResourceFile` are mutually exclusive (`[OverloadGroup]`). Supply exactly one. In the designer, a context menu lets you switch between **Use File Path** and **Use a File Resource**.
+- The `Range` property accepts formats such as `"All"`, `"1"`, `"2-5"`, or comma-separated page numbers. An invalid format raises an exception at runtime.
+- `PreserveFormatting` defaults to `false`; when `false`, text is extracted without spatial layout information.
+- For scanned PDFs where native text extraction returns empty results, use **Read PDF With OCR** instead.

+Reads all characters from a specified PDF file and stores the result in a string variable by using OCR technology. Use this activity for scanned PDFs where native text extraction returns empty results.

+#### OCR Engine Selection
+
+**Use UiPath Document OCR** (`ocr:UiPathDocumentOCR`) as the default OCR engine for PDF OCR activities. It provides the best accuracy for document-oriented content (tables, paragraphs, mixed layouts, skewed scans).
+
+**Do NOT use UiPath Screen OCR** (`ocr:UiPathScreenOCR`) with PDF activities. Screen OCR is designed for live screen captures and UI automation scenarios, not for document processing. It will produce inferior results on scanned documents.
+

+> **Required credentials for UiPath Document OCR:** `Endpoint` and `ApiKey` are user/organization-specific values that cannot be auto-discovered. The agent **must ask the user** for these values before generating the workflow. Do not leave them as `{x:Null}` or use placeholder strings — the workflow will fail at runtime without valid credentials.

+## Notes
+
+- This activity requires an OCR engine to be placed inside the `OCREngine` scope. Without an OCR engine, a validation error is raised: the activity will not work without one.
+- The `OCREngine` child element is an `ActivityFunc` delegate — it must contain exactly one OCR engine activity. **The OCR engine must set `Image="[Image]"` to bind to the delegate argument** — without this binding the engine receives no input.
+- **OCR engine packages must be installed separately.** The most common package is `UiPath.OCR.Activities` (namespace `xmlns:ocr="http://schemas.uipath.com/workflow/activities/ocr"`), which provides UiPath Document OCR, Google Cloud Vision OCR, and Microsoft OCR. Use `uip rpa activities find --query "OCR engine"` to discover available engines and `uip rpa packages install` to install the required package.
+- The `DegreeOfParallelism` factory default is `-1` (maximum parallelism). A value of `-1` means the activity uses `LogicalProcessorCount - 1` threads. Values exceeding the processor count are capped automatically.
+- `ImageDpi` is a plain enum property set directly as an XML attribute — it is not wrapped in a VB expression.
+- The `Range` property accepts formats such as `"All"`, `"1"`, `"2-5"`, or comma-separated page numbers. An invalid format raises an exception at runtime.
+- For PDFs with embedded (native) text, prefer **Read PDF Text** instead — it is faster and does not require an OCR engine.
