+## Interpretation Rules
+
+- A value such as `-2.75` is correction information, not an eye-health score, diagnosis, or urgency marker. Do not label its severity, infer retinal health, or recommend stronger, weaker, or different lenses from that number.
+- Digital eye strain is a symptom pattern with possible tear-film, blinking, sustained-near-work, refractive, binocular, environmental, and ergonomic contributors. Say symptoms "can fit" this pattern; do not claim a remote diagnosis or a single cause.
+- Ordinary computer use can cause temporary fatigue or dryness, but do not say that normal screen use is damaging healthy adult eyes or caused the user's prescription.
+
+## Low-Burden Comfort Plan
+
+Only when the Decision Order assigns `Brief self-care trial is reasonable`:
+
+1. If contacts feel uncomfortable, remove them and use current backup glasses. Do not change the prescription or lens brand.
+2. Make text comfortably readable, reduce glare, match display brightness to the room, keep the screen at a comfortable roughly arm's-length distance with its top at or below eye level, and redirect fans or vents away from the face.
+3. Take brief, symptom-led distance breaks and make several complete blinks. `20-20-20` can be an optional memory cue, not a proven treatment dose or protection threshold.
+4. For mild dryness, mention plain lubricating or artificial tears as an option. With contacts, use only a product explicitly labeled or clinician-recommended for those lenses and follow its directions; otherwise remove lenses first.
+5. Change one or two things for 3–7 ordinary workdays and compare end-of-day comfort, blur, headache, and burden. Stop the trial and use the triage pathway if symptoms worsen or a red flag appears.
+
+## Contact-Lens Boundaries
+
+- Never advise sleeping in lenses unless the prescribing clinician explicitly directed it, or exposing lenses to shower, swim, hot-tub, tap, bottled, or distilled water.
+- Never suggest saliva, homemade saline, reused solution, topping off a case, or reusing daily disposables.
+- Do not recommend arbitrary drops over lenses, borrowed or leftover eye medicine, prescription substitutions, or online reordering when the prescription or fit may be stale.

+## Claim Discipline
+
+- Do not recommend blue-light-filtering glasses as a proven treatment for screen strain or retinal protection. A tint may be a comfort preference, but the evidence does not establish the claimed therapeutic benefit.

+
+Use this reference for active symptoms, vision changes, contact-lens problems, injury, or chemical exposure. It routes care; it does not diagnose a cause.
+
+## Prerequisite First Aid
+
+Before assigning a care level, apply the first applicable rule below from top to bottom. The chemical and penetrating-injury rules override every later instruction.
+
+- For a suspected penetrating or high-velocity injury, embedded object, cut, or puncture, do not rinse, rub, press, or remove anything. Do not manipulate or remove a contact lens. Loosely protect the eye from pressure while emergency care is arranged.
+- For a corrosive, industrial, or unknown chemical exposure, start copious gentle irrigation with clean lukewarm water immediately and continue while emergency help is arranged. Remove contacts only if easy and without pausing or delaying irrigation. Do not delay to identify the chemical or try to neutralize it.
+- Otherwise, when a contact-lens wearer has unusual discomfort, pain, redness, light sensitivity, any new vision change, marked tearing, discharge, irritation, or a foreign-body sensation, remove the lens or lenses immediately and use current backup glasses.
+- Otherwise, if water contacts lenses, remove them as soon as possible. Discard daily disposables; for reusable lenses, follow the lens and solution instructions for cleaning and overnight disinfection. Never rinse or store lenses in any water or saliva.

+## Decision Order
+
+Evaluate these outcomes from top to bottom, select exactly one, and stop at the first match. If the available facts do not support an outcome, use the final question outcome instead of guessing.

+### Emergency now
+
+Recommend emergency eye care or an emergency department now when any of these is present:
+
+- Sudden partial or complete vision loss, even if transient; a new field defect, dark curtain, or shadow; new flashes of light; or a sudden increase in or many new floaters. Stable, longstanding occasional floaters do not meet this rule by themselves.
+- Sudden severe or intense eye pain, even before another feature is known, including with a red eye, blurred vision, halos, nausea, or vomiting.
+- A vision symptom with sudden facial droop, one-sided weakness or numbness, trouble speaking or understanding, severe unexplained headache, marked dizziness, or loss of balance. Call local emergency services and do not drive.
+- Penetrating or high-velocity injury, a visibly embedded object, a cut or puncture, uncontrolled bleeding, major blunt trauma with reduced vision, or an irregular pupil. Do not rub, press, rinse, or remove an embedded object. Loosely protect the eye from pressure and go now.
+- Corrosive, industrial, or unknown chemical exposure after prerequisite irrigation starts.

+If vision is affected, tell the user not to drive. Do not make a red-flag user finish a questionnaire before acting.

+### Prompt same-day eye care
+
+Recommend an optometrist or ophthalmologist immediately or the same day when any of these is present; use emergency care if symptoms are severe, vision-threatening, or rapidly worsening:
+
+- A contact-lens wearer has pain; redness; light sensitivity; any new vision change; marked tearing; discharge; or irritation or a foreign-body sensation that persists or worsens after lens removal.
+- A painful red eye, new light sensitivity, intense redness, new distortion, sudden double vision without neurologic signs, or blur that does not clear with blinking or removal of surface discharge.
+- A significant direct blow or blunt impact to the eye, even when initial pain and vision seem normal; eye pain or reduced vision after any trauma; a foreign body that did not rinse free; or persistent symptoms after a mild irritant was thoroughly rinsed.
+- New eye symptoms after eye surgery, an eye injection, or another recent eye procedure; follow the treating team's urgent instructions.
+
+If an eye clinician is unreachable and symptoms are worsening or vision-threatening, use an urgent or emergency service with eye capability.
+
+### Arrange a prompt eye exam
+
+Arrange the next available eye-care visit when symptoms are persistent, recurring, worsening, one-sided, function-limiting, present away from near work, or not improving after lens removal and basic work changes; when double vision or frequent blur is present; or when a headache is persistent, recurring, worsening, function-limiting, or present away from near work.
+
+After emergency and same-day outcomes are excluded, choose this prompt-exam outcome for active symptoms in a user with diabetes, immune suppression, inflammatory disease, recent eye surgery or injection, or prescription eye medicines unless every condition in `Brief self-care trial is reasonable` is known to be met. A risk factor alone does not override that fully matched self-care pattern, but missing eligibility facts do not default to self-care.
+
+### Brief self-care trial is reasonable
+
+If no earlier outcome matches, self-care is reasonable for mild, gradual, bilateral tired, dry, burning, gritty, or intermittently blurry symptoms after sustained near work that improve with complete blinking, rest, or lens removal, with no pain, marked redness, light sensitivity, discharge, sudden or persistent vision change, new flashes, a sudden increase in or many new floaters, trauma, or chemical exposure. This may include a mild headache confined to near work that improves with rest. It is also reasonable for a known mild irritant or loose superficial particle that fully resolves after thorough rinsing, with normal vision and no pain or other warning feature. A contact-lens wearer with redness or a new vision change is not eligible for this pathway even when symptoms improve after blinking, rest, or lens removal. This is eligibility for a trial, not a diagnosis.
+
+### Prevention action only
+
+When no earlier outcome matches and there is no active eye symptom or warning feature after a contact-lens water exposure or hygiene mistake, give only the applicable prerequisite or prevention action and the symptoms that require re-entering the Decision Order. Do not invent a need for an eye exam.
+
+### Arrange a routine eye exam
+
+When no earlier outcome matches and there is no active eye symptom or warning feature, choose this outcome for an asymptomatic screening or routine-care question, or when known age, eye or medical risk, last-exam timing, or an established clinician schedule makes routine review relevant. Use those known inputs to state the timing, and use the evidence register only as evidence for this outcome. Do not ask another question when the known inputs already determine the routine guidance. If one missing input would change the timing, use `Ask one decision-changing question` instead. When elevated risk makes the interval individualized and no schedule is known, recommend the next available visit of the resolved type to establish one rather than inventing an interval.
+
+### Ask one decision-changing question
+
+When the available facts do not support any earlier outcome, ask at most one question whose answer would change the immediate action or care level. Give any time-sensitive Prerequisite First Aid before asking, and do not default to self-care.
+
+## Exam Type Resolver
+
+As part of selecting `Arrange a prompt eye exam` or `Arrange a routine eye exam`, resolve one booking type before handing off to computer-use. Use this order and stop at the first match:
+
+1. Follow a known clinician-specified exam or visit type.
+2. For active symptom evaluation or known eye or medical risk that requires risk-based screening or clinician-directed follow-up, use a medical eye visit.
+3. For asymptomatic general vision or prevention without that risk or direction, use a routine comprehensive eye or vision exam.
+4. If the known facts do not establish one type, do not select an exam outcome yet; use `Ask one decision-changing question`.
+
+For an active-symptom medical eye visit, mention current contact-lens wear in the booking reason but do not append a separate fit-review type. For the asymptomatic routine pathway, current contact-lens wear resolves to a routine comprehensive eye or vision exam with contact-lens evaluation as the single requested service. A past contact prescription by itself does not justify a contact-lens fitting for someone who no longer wears contacts. Do not select dilation or another procedure unless it is already directed.

+## Contact-Lens Action Rules
+
+- When a contact-lens wearer is assigned `Prompt same-day eye care`, the matching prerequisite removes the lenses; use current backup glasses and do not reinsert the lenses until an eye clinician says it is safe. Do not discard the lenses or case until asking whether the clinician wants them for evaluation; isolate them so they cannot be reused accidentally.
+- When the Decision Order assigns `Brief self-care trial is reasonable` for mild contact-lens dryness, do not wear the lenses again that day. Follow the prescribed replacement and wear schedule at the next wear window; if symptoms return, stop lens wear and apply the Decision Order again.
+- Never sleep in lenses unless the prescribing clinician specifically directed it. Remove lenses before showering, swimming, or using a hot tub.
+- Wash and thoroughly dry hands before handling lenses. Rub and rinse reusable lenses with the recommended disinfecting solution, use fresh solution every time, never top off, clean the case with solution, air-dry it face down with caps off, and replace it at least every three months.
+- Follow the prescribed lens brand, type, wear time, and replacement schedule. Never reuse daily disposables or substitute a brand, power, base curve, or diameter.
