+ # laylight-cli
18
+
19
+ The `laylight` command line for [Laylight](https://laylight.photonstack.io/), a language for photonic and integrated-circuit layouts. It checks, formats and compiles Laylight files to GDSII, writes netlists and turns GDSII back into Laylight source.
20
+
21
+ ```bash
22
+ pip install laylight-cli # or: uv tool install laylight-cli, pipx install laylight-cli
23
+ ```
24
+
25
+ The [Laylight Python library](https://pypi.org/project/laylight/) depends on this package, so `pip install laylight` installs the command too.
26
+
27
+ ```bash
28
+ laylight check ring.lyl # syntax, types, units and evaluation
29
+ laylight build ring.lyl -o ring.gds # compile to GDSII
30
+ laylight ir ring.lyl # print the Laylight IR
31
+ laylight netlist ring.lyl # connectivity as JSON; `lvs` compares it
32
+ laylight fmt ring.lyl # format in place
33
+ laylight decompile chip.gds -o chip.lyl
34
+ ```
35
+
36
+ The wheels hold a native executable for Linux x86-64 and ARM64 (glibc 2.17 or later), macOS on Apple silicon and Windows x86-64; it does not depend on the Python version. On other systems the package installs a `laylight` command that only reports the missing build. See the [Installation Guide](https://laylight.photonstack.io/installation/) for other ways to install.
