+ Summary: Name reservation. This is NOT the Drak Marketing drak-ops package; it is a placeholder that prevents the name being registered by someone else.

+ # drak-ops — name reservation
17
+
18
+ **This is not a functional package.** It exists only to hold the PyPI name
19
+ `drak-ops` so that nobody else can register it.
20
+
21
+ The real `drak-ops` is a private package belonging to Drak Marketing. It is
22
+ never installed from PyPI — always by direct URL:
23
+
24
+ ```
25
+ drak-ops[google] @ git+https://github.com/mharnett/drak-ops.git
26
+ ```
27
+
28
+ ## Why this exists
29
+
30
+ A private package name that is *not* claimed on the public index is a
31
+ dependency-confusion vector. If anyone ever writes `pip install drak-ops`
32
+ without the URL — in a Dockerfile, a CI step, a README, or by hand — pip
33
+ resolves it against PyPI and installs whatever is published there. Registering
34
+ the name ourselves means that path leads to this inert placeholder instead of
35
+ to a stranger's code.
36
+
37
+ The name became publicly discoverable through an open-source MCP package that
38
+ referenced it, which is what prompted the reservation.
39
+
40
+ ## What it deliberately does not do
41
+
42
+ It ships a module named `drak_ops_placeholder`, **not** `drak_ops`. A
43
+ placeholder that provided a real-looking `drak_ops` package would shadow the
44
+ private one if both ever landed in the same environment — turning a defensive
45
+ measure into the outage it was meant to prevent. Importing anything from it
46
+ raises with the correct install line.
47
+
48
+ ## Maintaining it
49
+
50
+ Nothing to do. It never needs a new release. If it somehow must be rebuilt:
51
+
52
+ ```bash
53
+ python3 -m venv /tmp/venv && /tmp/venv/bin/pip install -q build twine
54
+ /tmp/venv/bin/python -m build
55
+ /tmp/venv/bin/twine check dist/*
56
+ /tmp/venv/bin/twine upload dist/*
57
+ ```
58
+
59
+ Note `drak-ops`, `drak_ops` and `Drak.Ops` all normalise to the same PyPI
60
+ project (PEP 503), so this single registration covers them. `drakops` — no
61
+ separator — is a *different* name and is not covered.
