title: JUnit Reporter
3
+
description: Learn how to use the JUnit reporter with Testomat.io to upload XML test reports from various frameworks like JUnit, Pytest, NUnit, and more. Testomat.io automatically processes these reports to generate detailed test runs and create tests directly in the system. Supports Playwright, Ruby, Java, Python, and PHP.

## JUnit Reports
13
+
14
+
JUnit XML format is standard among test runners on various platforms. Testomat.io can load XML reports from test runners and create tests in a project from it. If your framework is not supported yet, generate JUnit report and upload it into Testomat.io
15
+
16
+
Testomat.io will not only create a run report but also collect all information about tests, including source code, and create tests in a system as regular importer do. The only difference that normal process of Testomat.io import does not require executing tests on import, while importing via reporter requires to have tests executed and XML report provided.
17
+
18
+
Tested Frameworks:
19
+
20
+
- JUnit (JUnit)
21
+
- Python (Pytest)
22
+
- Minitest (Ruby)
23
+
- PHPUnit (PHP)
24
+
- NUnit (C#)
25
+
26
+
To enable Testomatio Reporter install `@testomatio/reporter` package
27
+
28
+
Use one of your favorite package managers:
29
+
30
+
```
31
+
npm install @testomatio/reporter --save-dev
32
+
```
33
+
34
+
```
35
+
pnpm install @testomatio/reporter --save-dev
36
+
```
37
+
38
+
```
39
+
yarn add @testomatio/reporter --dev
40
+
```
41
+
42
+
Run your test framework and generate a JUnit report.
43
+
44
+
Then import XML report into Testomat.io
45
+
46
+
```
47
+
npx @testomatio/reporter xml "{pattern}" --lang={lang}
48
+
```
49
+
50
+
- `pattern` - is a glob pattern to match all XML files from report. For instance, `"test/report/**.xml"` or just `report.xml`
51
+
- `--lang` option can be specified to identify source code of the project. Example: `--lang=Ruby` or `--lang=Java` or `--lang=Python`. Possible values:
52
+
- `c#`
53
+
- `java`
54
+
- `ruby`
55
+
- `python`
56
+
- `php`
57
+
- `--java-tests` option is avaiable for Java projects, and can be set if path to tests is different then `src/test/java`. When this option is enable, `lang` option is automatically set to `java`
58
+
- `--env-file <envfile>` option to load environment variables from .env file. Inside env file TESTOMATIO credentials like `TESTOMATIO` api key or [bucket config for artifats](./artifacts.md).
59
+
- `--timelimit ` set a timer to silently kill a long-running reporter process due to network or other issues. For instance, use `--set-timeout=3` to stop process after 3 secs.
60
+
61
+
## Pytest
62
+
63
+
Run pytest tests and generate a report to `report.xml`:
64
+
65
+
```
66
+
pytest --junit-xml report.xml
67
+
```
68
+
69
+
Import report with this command
70
+
71
+
```
72
+
TESTOMATIO={API_KEY} npx @testomatio/reporter xml report.xml --lang=python
73
+
```
74
+
75
+
## JUnit
76
+
77
+
Run tests via Maven, make sure JUnit report was configured in `pom.xml`.
78
+
79
+
```
80
+
mvn clean test
81
+
```
82
+
83
+
Import report with this command:
84
+
85
+
```
86
+
TESTOMATIO={API_KEY} npx @testomatio/reporter xml "target/surefire-reports/*.xml" --java-tests
87
+
```
88
+
89
+
> [!NOTE]
90
+
> If your tests are located in a folder other other than `src/test/java`, specify a path to test files using `--java-tests` option: `--java-tests="path/to/tests"`
91
+
92
+
Screenshots or videos from tests are uploaded if test contains output with a path to file of following format:
93
+
94
+
```
95
+
file://path/to/screenshot.png
96
+
```
97
+
98
+
Use `System.out.println` to print an absulute path to file that should be uploaded as a screenshot.
99
+
100
+
```java
101
+
System.out.println("file://" + pathToScreenshot);
102
+
```
103
+
104
+
This will produce XML report which contains path to a file:
105
+
106
+
```xml
107
+
<testcase>
108
+
<system-out>
109
+
file://path/to/scrrenshot.png
110
+
</system-out>
111
+
</testcase>
112
+
```
113
+
114
+
When XML report is uploaded, all files from `file://` will be uploaded to corresponding tests.
115
+
116
+
### Assign Test ID
117
+
118
+
Test IDs can be taken applied to a test name. So to assign a test in a result to to test in Testomat.io with ID `@T8acca9eb` add this ID to a test name if your test framework allows setting test names as a string.
119
+
120
+
```xml
121
+
<testcase name="test name @T8acca9eb"> ....
122
+
```
123
+
124
+
To place a test inside a specific sute you can set a suite ID similarly to a test ID:
125
+
126
+
```xml
127
+
<testcase name="test name @S1428a8fa"> ....
128
+
```
129
+
130
+
If a file with a source code is available to a reporter, you can link test in the test body and specify Test ID as a comment:
131
+
132
+
```java
133
+
@Test
134
+
public void testAddition() {
135
+
// @T8acca9eb
136
+
MyMath myMath = new MyMath();
137
+
int result = myMath.add(2, 3);
138
+
assertEquals(5, result);
139
+
}
140
+
```
141
+
142
+
In this case `@TT8acca9eb` is ID of existing test inside Testomat.io project
143
+
144
+
Alternatively, if the code can't be imported by a reported, use output inside a test to print its ID:
145
+
146
+
```java
147
+
public void testAddition() {
148
+
MyMath myMath = new MyMath();
149
+
int result = myMath.add(2, 3);
150
+
System.out.println("tid://@T8acca9eb"); // here we print test ID
151
+
assertEquals(5, result);
152
+
}
153
+
```
154
+
155
+
## NUnit
156
+
157
+
Generate NUnit XML report and run the following code:
158
+
159
+
```
160
+
TESTOMATIO={API_KEY} npx @testomatio/reporter xml "report.xml" --lang="c#"
161
+
```
162
+
163
+
If NUnit generates `<ResultFiles>` section in XML report, all items from it will be uploaded as artifacts. For instance, this is available for **Playwright DotNet** integration.
164
+
165
+
```xml
166
+
<Results>
167
+
<UnitTestResult>
168
+
<ResultFiles>
169
+
<ResultFile path="screenshot2.png" />
170
+
<ResultFile path="data.zip" />
171
+
</ResultFiles>
172
+
</UnitTestResult>
173
+
```
174
+
175
+
To upload an arbitrary file as artifact, print its absulute path to console:
176
+
177
+
```c#
178
+
Console.WriteLine("file://path/to/file.png");
179
+
```
180
+
181
+
### Assign Test ID
182
+
183
+
To link test in source code with test in Testomat.io print a Test ID inside a test:
184
+
185
+
```java
186
+
Console.WriteLine("tid://@T8acca9eb"); // here we print test ID
187
+
```
188
+
189
+
Use `tid://` prefix with a existing Test ID to match test with ID.
190
+
191
+
## Ruby Minitest
192
+
193
+
```ruby
194
+
195
+
196
+
reporters = [Minitest::Reporters::DefaultReporter.new(color: true)]
197
+
198
+
reporters << Minitest::Reporters::JUnitReporter.new
199
+
+
Minitest::Reporters.use! reporters
Import reports from `test/reports` directory:
210
211
+
```
212
+
TESTOMATIO={API_KEY} npx @testomatio/reporter xml "test/reports/*.xml" --lang ruby
213
+
```
214
+
215
+
### Assign Test ID
216
+
217
+
Add test ID to a test name prefixed with `@T`. For instance, to link test from source code to test with id `@T8acca9eb` add TID to a test title:
218
+
219
+
```ruby
220
+
test 'export test as yaml @T8acca9eb' do
221
+
# ....
222
+
end
223
+
```
224
+
225
+
To place a test inside a specific sute you can set a suite ID similarly to a test ID:
226
+
227
+
```ruby
228
+
test 'export test as yaml @S1428a8fa' do
229
+
# ....
230
+
end
231
+
```
232
+
233
+
To link test in source code with test in Testomat.io print a Test ID inside a test:
234
+
235
+
```ruby
236
+
puts "tid://@T8acca9eb" // here we print test ID
237
+
```
238
+
239
+
Use `tid://` prefix with a existing Test ID to match test with ID.
240
+
241
+
## PHPUnit
242
+
243
+
Generate PHPUnit XML and import it
244
+
245
+
```
246
+
TESTOMATIO={API_KEY} npx @testomatio/reporter xml "report.xml" --lang php
247

For proper logger work, your tests titles should contain testomatio test ids ([see details](https://docs.testomat.io/usage/continuous-integration/#assigning-ids)).
24
+
25

The logger supports next methods: `assert`, `debug`, `error`, `info`, `log`, `trace` and `warn`.

Logging functionality is represented by 2 entitites:

Logger has ability to intercept other loggers. [usage](#usage)

31
+
## Usage
32
+
33
+
Log messages with different levels:
34
+
35
+
```javascript
36
+
const { logger } = require('@testomatio/reporter');
37
+
// or
38
+
import { logger } from '@testomatio/reporter';
39
+
40
+
logger.info('message');
41
+
logger.error('message');
42
+
```
43
+
44
+
Logger allows configuration (See [Configuration](#configuration) section for details).
45
+
46
+
### Convenient syntax with "log" function
47
+
48
+
```javascript
49
+
const { log } = require('@testomatio/reporter');
50
+
51
+
test('Your test @T12345678', async () => {
52
+
await page.login(user);
53
+
log`I was logged in with user ${user}`; // <<<<<
54
+
assert(loggedIn);
55
+
});
56
+
```
57
+
58
+
More examples:
59
+
60
+
```javascript
61
+
const { log } = require('@testomatio/reporter');
62
+
// or
63
+
import { log } from '@testomatio/reporter';
64
+
65
+
log`your message`;
66
+
log`your message ${variable}`;
67
+
```
68
+
69
+
### Intercept logs from your logger (and attach them to testomatio report)
70
+
71
+
```javascript
72
+
const { logger } = require('@testomatio/reporter')
73
+
74
+
logger.intercept(console); // intercept console
75
+
76
+
describe('Your suite @S12345678', () => {
77
+
test('Your test @T12345678', async () => {
78
+
await page.login();
79
+
console.log('this message will be intercepted and added to your report'); // <<
80
+
assert(something);
81
+
});
82
+
```
83
+
84
+
Pass the logger object you want to intercept, not its name:\
85
+
✅ `logger.intercept(pino)`\
86
+
❌ `logger.intercept('pino')`
87
+
88
+
NodeJS `console` is intercepted by default for some frameworks (CodeceptJS, Cucumber), to add console logs to your report just import logger in your test file and use console as usual. For other frameworks you need to set `TESTOMATIO_INTERCEPT_CONSOLE_LOGS` env variable to any truthy value. Or intercept console (or any other logger) manually (see examples above or below).
89
+
90
+
### Examples for other loggers intercepting
91
+
92
+
```javascript
93
+
const logLevel = require('loglevel');
94
+
const pino = require('pino')();
95
+
const morgan = require('morgan');
96
+
const tracer = require('tracer').console();
97
+
const tracerColor = require('tracer').colorConsole();
98
+
99
+
logger.intercept(logLevel);
100
+
logger.intercept(pino);
101
+
logger.intercept(morgan);
102
+
logger.intercept(tracer);
103
+
logger.intercept(tracerColor);
104
+
```
105
+
106
+
> Note: if you import testomatio logger as "logger", be sure not to import other loggers as "logger" too. Otherwise, you will get an error.
107
+
108
+
## Configuration
109
+
110
+
After you import logger, you can configure it:
111
+
112
+
```javascript
113
+
const { logger } = require('@testomatio/reporter');
114
+
loggger.configure({
115
+
logLevel: 'WARN',
116
+
prettyObjects: true,
117
+
});
118
+
```
119
+
120
+
List of available options:
121
+
122
+
- `prettyObjects` [boolean] - if true, objects will be printed on multiple lines (easier to read). Default: `false` (object are printed on one line)
123
+
- `logLevel` [error, warn, log, info, debug, trace, verbose, all] - ignores messages below the log level set. Also could be set by `LOG_LEVEL` env variable. Default: `all`
124
+
125
+

### Codeception
25
+
26
+
> [!NOTE]
27
+
> For Codeception 4.x install `testomatio/php-reporter` version 0.4.0, for Codeception 5+ install `1.0.0` version of this reporter.
28
+
29
+
Get API key from Testomatio application and set it as `TESTOMATIO` environment variable.
30
+
Run your tests with`Testomatio\Reporter\Codeception` extension enabled:
31
+
32
+
On Linux/MacOS:
33
+
34
+
```
35
+
TESTOMATIO={apiKey} php vendor/bin/codecept run --ext "Testomatio\Reporter\Codeception"
36
+
```
37
+
38
+
On Windows
39
+
40
+
```
41
+
set TESTOMATIO={apiKey}&& php vendor/bin/codecept run --ext "Testomatio\Reporter\Codeception"
42
+
```
43
+
44
+
Alternatively, you can add `Testomatio\Reporter\Codeception` extension to suite or global config.
45
+
Reporter will be started only when `TESTOMATIO` environment variable is set:
46
+
47
+
```yml
48
+
extensions:
49
+
enabled:
50
+
- Testomatio\Reporter\Codeception
51
+
```
52
+
53
+
### PHPUnit
54
+
55
+
> PHPUnit v10+ is not implemented yet
56
+
57
+
Add `Testomatio\Reporter\PHPUnit` listener to `phpunit.xml` or `phpunit.dist.xml`
58
+
59
+
```xml
60
+
<listeners>
61
+
<listener class="Testomatio\Reporter\PHPUnit" file="vendor/testomatio/php-reporter/src/PHPUnit.php" />
62
+
</listeners>
63
+
```
64
+
Run tests and provide `TESTOMATIO` API key as environment variable:
65
+
66
+
On Linux/MacOS:
67
+
68
+
```
69
+
TESTOMATIO={apiKey} php vendor/bin/phpunit
70
+
```
71
+
72
+
On Windows
73
+
74
+
```
75
+
set TESTOMATIO={apiKey}&& php vendor/bin/phpunit
## Bitbucket Pipe
13
Bitbucket Pipe adds a comment with a summary of a run to a Pull Request:
16
17
This summary will contain:
19
+
20
+
- Status of a test run
21
+
- Number of failed/passed/skipped tests
22
+
- Stack traces of failing tests (first 10)
23
+
- Screenshots of failed tests (if available)
26
**🔌 Тo enable Bitbucket pipe set BITBUCKET_ACCESS_TOKEN in Bitbucket Repository variables**
27
+
28
+
To use the BITBUCKET_ACCESS_TOKEN from Repository Access Tokens in Bitbucket Pipelines, follow these steps:
29
+
30
+
1. In Bitbucket, go to your repository settings.
31
+
32
+
2. Select "Repository Access Tokens" under the "Access management" section.
33
+
34
+
3. Create a new Access Token, granting it the necessary permissions (e.g., read and write for the repository).
35
+
36
+
37
+
Now, you need to add this token as an environment variable in Bitbucket Pipelines:
38
+
39
+
1. Go to "Pipelines" in your repository settings.
40
+
41
+
2. Select "Repository variables" under the "Settings" section.
42
+
43
+
3. Add a new variable with the name BITBUCKET_ACCESS_TOKEN and paste the token
44
+
45
+
46
+
Once you've done that, your pipelines.yml configuration file will automatically use this token. Here's how it should look:
47
+
48
+
```yaml

description: The GitHub Pipe feature in Testomat.io enables automated comments on pull requests, summarizing test results with key metrics like passed/failed/skipped tests, stack traces, and slowest tests. It integrates through the GH_PAT environment variable, with options to keep previous reports using GH_KEEP_OUTDATED_REPORTS. This enhances CI workflows by providing detailed feedback directly in GitHub.

## GitHub Pipe
13
+
14
+
GitHub Pipe adds a comment with a summary of a run to a Pull Request:
15
+
16
+

17
+
18

This summary will contain:
19
+
20
+
- Status of a test run
21
+
- Number of failed/passed/skipped tests
22

- Stack traces of failing tests (first 20)
23

- Screenshots of failed tests (if available)
24

**🔌 To enable GitHub pipe set `GH_PAT` environment with GitHub Private Access Token**
27

28

When using GitHub Actions inside Pull Request you can set GH_PAT from `github.token` system variable. Here is a sample workflow:
29

30

```yaml
### Keep Outdated Reports
53
54
If a pipeline is executed multiple times, comment with previous reports will be deleted. To keep them pass `GH_KEEP_OUTDATED_REPORTS` variable:
55
+
56
```yaml

## GitLab Pipe
13

14

Similarly to [GitHub Pipe](./github.md#github-pipe), GitLab Pipe adds a comment with a summary of a run to a Merge Request:
15

16

This summary will contain:
17

- Status of a test run
19
+
- Number of failed/passed/skipped tests

20

- Stack traces of failing tests (first 20)
21
