"readme": "# tslib\r\n\r\nThis is a runtime library for [TypeScript](https://www.typescriptlang.org/) that contains all of the TypeScript helper functions.\r\n\r\nThis library is primarily used by the `--importHelpers` flag in TypeScript.\r\nWhen using `--importHelpers`, a module that uses helper functions like `__extends` and `__assign` in the following emitted file:\r\n\r\n```ts\r\nvar __assign = (this && this.__assign) || Object.assign || function(t) {\r\n for (var s, i = 1, n = arguments.length; i < n; i++) {\r\n s = arguments[i];\r\n for (var p in s) if (Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(s, p))\r\n t[p] = s[p];\r\n }\r\n return t;\r\n};\r\nexports.x = {};\r\nexports.y = __assign({}, exports.x);\r\n\r\n```\r\n\r\nwill instead be emitted as something like the following:\r\n\r\n```ts\r\nvar tslib_1 = require(\"tslib\");\r\nexports.x = {};\r\nexports.y = tslib_1.__assign({}, exports.x);\r\n```\r\n\r\nBecause this can avoid duplicate declarations of things like `__extends`, `__assign`, etc., this means delivering users smaller files on average, as well as less runtime overhead.\r\nFor optimized bundles with TypeScript, you should absolutely consider using `tslib` and `--importHelpers`.\r\n\r\n# Installing\r\n\r\nFor the latest stable version, run:\r\n\r\n## npm\r\n\r\n```sh\r\n# TypeScript 3.9.2 or later\r\nnpm install tslib\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 3.8.4 or earlier\r\nnpm install tslib@^1\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 2.3.2 or earlier\r\nnpm install tslib@1.6.1\r\n```\r\n\r\n## yarn\r\n\r\n```sh\r\n# TypeScript 3.9.2 or later\r\nyarn add tslib\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 3.8.4 or earlier\r\nyarn add tslib@^1\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 2.3.2 or earlier\r\nyarn add tslib@1.6.1\r\n```\r\n\r\n## bower\r\n\r\n```sh\r\n# TypeScript 3.9.2 or later\r\nbower install tslib\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 3.8.4 or earlier\r\nbower install tslib@^1\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 2.3.2 or earlier\r\nbower install tslib@1.6.1\r\n```\r\n\r\n## JSPM\r\n\r\n```sh\r\n# TypeScript 3.9.2 or later\r\njspm install tslib\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 3.8.4 or earlier\r\njspm install tslib@^1\r\n\r\n# TypeScript 2.3.2 or earlier\r\njspm install tslib@1.6.1\r\n```\r\n\r\n# Usage\r\n\r\nSet the `importHelpers` compiler option on the command line:\r\n\r\n```\r\ntsc --importHelpers file.ts\r\n```\r\n\r\nor in your tsconfig.json:\r\n\r\n```json\r\n{\r\n \"compilerOptions\": {\r\n \"importHelpers\": true\r\n }\r\n}\r\n```\r\n\r\n#### For bower and JSPM users\r\n\r\nYou will need to add a `paths` mapping for `tslib`, e.g. For Bower users:\r\n\r\n```json\r\n{\r\n \"compilerOptions\": {\r\n \"module\": \"amd\",\r\n \"importHelpers\": true,\r\n \"baseUrl\": \"./\",\r\n \"paths\": {\r\n \"tslib\" : [\"bower_components/tslib/tslib.d.ts\"]\r\n }\r\n }\r\n}\r\n```\r\n\r\nFor JSPM users:\r\n\r\n```json\r\n{\r\n \"compilerOptions\": {\r\n \"module\": \"system\",\r\n \"importHelpers\": true,\r\n \"baseUrl\": \"./\",\r\n \"paths\": {\r\n \"tslib\" : [\"jspm_packages/npm/tslib@2.x.y/tslib.d.ts\"]\r\n }\r\n }\r\n}\r\n```\r\n\r\n## Deployment\r\n\r\n- Choose your new version number\r\n- Set it in `package.json` and `bower.json`\r\n- Create a tag: `git tag [version]`\r\n- Push the tag: `git push --tags`\r\n- Create a [release in GitHub](https://github.com/microsoft/tslib/releases)\r\n- Run the [publish to npm](https://github.com/microsoft/tslib/actions?query=workflow%3A%22Publish+to+NPM%22) workflow\r\n\r\nDone.\r\n\r\n# Contribute\r\n\r\nThere are many ways to [contribute](https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) to TypeScript.\r\n\r\n* [Submit bugs](https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/issues) and help us verify fixes as they are checked in.\r\n* Review the [source code changes](https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/pulls).\r\n* Engage with other TypeScript users and developers on [StackOverflow](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/typescript).\r\n* Join the [#typescript](http://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/%23typescript) discussion on Twitter.\r\n* [Contribute bug fixes](https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md).\r\n\r\n# Documentation\r\n\r\n* [Quick tutorial](http://www.typescriptlang.org/Tutorial)\r\n* [Programming handbook](http://www.typescriptlang.org/Handbook)\r\n* [Homepage](http://www.typescriptlang.org/)",

It is recommended to use the [Utility Methods](#utility_methods) instead of Basic Methods if it satisfy your request.\n\n### `question`\n\n```js\nanswer = readlineSync.question([query[, options]])\n```\n\nDisplay a `query` to the user if it's specified, and then return the input from the user after it has been typed and the Enter key was pressed. \nYou can specify an `options` (see [Basic Options](#basic_options)) to control the behavior (e.g. refusing unexpected input, avoiding trimming white spaces, etc.). **If you let the user input the secret text (e.g. password), you should consider [`hideEchoBack`](#basic_options-hideechoback) option.**\n\nThe `query` may be string, or may not be (e.g. number, Date, Object, etc.). It is converted to string (i.e. `toString` method is called) before it is displayed. (see [Note](#note) also) \nIt can include the [placeholders](#placeholders).\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nprogram = readlineSync.question('Which program starts do you want? ', {\n defaultInput: 'firefox'\n});\n```\n\n### `prompt`\n\n```js\ninput = readlineSync.prompt([options])\n```\n\nDisplay a prompt-sign (see [`prompt`](#basic_options-prompt) option) to the user, and then return the input from the user after it has been typed and the Enter key was pressed. \nYou can specify an `options` (see [Basic Options](#basic_options)) to control the behavior (e.g. refusing unexpected input, avoiding trimming white spaces, etc.).\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nwhile (true) {\n command = readlineSync.prompt();\n // Do something...\n}\n```\n\n### `keyIn`\n\n```js\npressedKey = readlineSync.keyIn([query[, options]])\n```\n\nDisplay a `query` to the user if it's specified, and then return a character as a key immediately it was pressed by the user, **without pressing the Enter key**. Note that the user has no chance to change the input. \nYou can specify an `options` (see [Basic Options](#basic_options)) to control the behavior (e.g. ignoring keys except some keys, checking target key, etc.).\n\nThe `query` is handled the same as that of the [`question`](#basic_methods-question) method.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nmenuId = readlineSync.keyIn('Hit 1...5 key: ', {limit: '$<1-5>'});\n```\n\n### `setDefaultOptions`\n\n```js\ncurrentDefaultOptions = readlineSync.setDefaultOptions([newDefaultOptions])\n```\n\nChange the [Default Options](#basic_options) to the values of properties of `newDefaultOptions` Object. \nAll it takes is to specify options that you want change, because unspecified options are not updated.\n\n## Basic Options\n\n[`prompt`](#basic_options-prompt), [`hideEchoBack`](#basic_options-hideechoback), [`mask`](#basic_options-mask), [`limit`](#basic_options-limit), [`limitMessage`](#basic_options-limitmessage), [`defaultInput`](#basic_options-defaultinput), [`trueValue`, `falseValue`](#basic_options-truevalue_falsevalue), [`caseSensitive`](#basic_options-casesensitive), [`keepWhitespace`](#basic_options-keepwhitespace), [`encoding`](#basic_options-encoding), [`bufferSize`](#basic_options-buffersize), [`print`](#basic_options-print), [`history`](#basic_options-history), [`cd`](#basic_options-cd)\n\nAn `options` Object can be specified to the methods to control the behavior of readlineSync. The options that were not specified to the methods are got from the Default Options. You can change the Default Options by [`setDefaultOptions`](#basic_methods-setdefaultoptions) method anytime, and it is kept until a current process is exited. \nSpecify the options that are often used to the Default Options, and specify temporary options to the methods.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nreadlineSync.setDefaultOptions({limit: ['green', 'yellow', 'red']});\na1 = readlineSync.question('Which color of signal? '); // Input is limited to 3 things.\na2 = readlineSync.question('Which color of signal? '); // It's limited yet.\na3 = readlineSync.question('What is your favorite color? ', {limit: null}); // It's unlimited temporarily.\na4 = readlineSync.question('Which color of signal? '); // It's limited again.\nreadlineSync.setDefaultOptions({limit: ['beef', 'chicken']});\na5 = readlineSync.question('Beef or Chicken? '); // Input is limited to new 2 things.\na6 = readlineSync.question('And you? '); // It's limited to 2 things yet.\n```\n\nThe Object as `options` can have following properties.\n\n### `prompt`\n\n_For `prompt*` methods only_ \n*Type:* string or others \n*Default:* `'> '`\n\nSet the prompt-sign that is displayed to the user by `prompt*` methods. For example you see `> ` that is Node.js's prompt-sign when you run `node` on the command line. \nThis may be string, or may not be (e.g. number, Date, Object, etc.). It is converted to string every time (i.e. `toString` method is called) before it is displayed. (see [Note](#note) also) \nIt can include the [placeholders](#placeholders).\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nreadlineSync.setDefaultOptions({prompt: '$ '});\n```\n\n```js\n// Display the memory usage always.\nreadlineSync.setDefaultOptions({\n prompt: { // Simple Object that has toString method.\n toString: function() {\n var rss = process.memoryUsage().rss;\n return '[' + (rss > 1024 ? Math.round(rss / 1024) + 'k' : rss) + 'b]$ ';\n }\n }\n});\n```\n\n```console\n[13148kb]$ foo\n[13160kb]$ bar\n[13200kb]$\n```\n\n### `hideEchoBack`\n\n*Type:* boolean \n*Default:* `false`\n\nIf `true` is specified, hide the secret text (e.g. password) which is typed by user on screen by the mask characters (see [`mask`](#basic_options-mask) option).\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\npassword = readlineSync.question('PASSWORD: ', {hideEchoBack: true});\nconsole.log('Login ...');\n```\n\n```console\nPASSWORD: ********\nLogin ...\n```\n\n### `mask`\n\n*Type:* string \n*Default:* `'*'`\n\nSet the mask characters that are shown instead of the secret text (e.g. password) when `true` is specified to [`hideEchoBack`](#basic_options-hideechoback) option. If you want to show nothing, specify `''`. (But it might be not user friendly in some cases.) \n**Note:** In some cases (e.g. when the input stream is redirected on Windows XP), `'*'` or `''` might be used whether other one is specified.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nsecret = readlineSync.question('Please whisper sweet words: ', {\n hideEchoBack: true,\n mask: require('chalk').magenta('\\u2665')\n});\n```\n\n![sample](screen_02.gif)\n\n### `limit`\n\nLimit the user's input. \nThe usage differ depending on the method.\n\n#### For `question*` and `prompt*` methods\n\n*Type:* string, number, RegExp, function or Array \n*Default:* `[]`\n\nAccept only the input that matches value that is specified to this. If the user input others, display a string that is specified to [`limitMessage`](#basic_options-limitmessage) option, and wait for reinput.\n\n* The string is compared with the input. It is affected by [`caseSensitive`](#basic_options-casesensitive) option.\n* The number is compared with the input that is converted to number by `parseFloat()`. For example, it interprets `' 3.14 '`, `'003.1400'`, `'314e-2'` and `'3.14PI'` as `3.14`. And it interprets `'005'`, `'5files'`, `'5kb'` and `'5px'` as `5`.\n* The RegExp tests the input.\n* The function that returns a boolean to indicate whether it matches is called with the input.\n\nOne of above or an Array that includes multiple things (or Array includes Array) can be specified.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\ncommand = readlineSync.prompt({limit: ['add', 'remove', /^clear( all)?$/]});\n// ** But `promptCL` method should be used instead of this. **\n```\n\n```js\nfile = readlineSync.question('Text File: ', {limit: /\\.txt$/i});\n// ** But `questionPath` method should be used instead of this. **\n```\n\n```js\nip = readlineSync.question('IP Address: ', {limit: function(input) {\n return require('net').isIP(input); // Valid IP Address\n}});\n```\n\n```js\navailableActions = [];\nif (!blockExists()) { availableActions.push('jump'); }\nif (isLarge(place)) { availableActions.push('run'); }\nif (isNew(shoes)) { availableActions.push('kick'); }\nif (isNearby(enemy)) { availableActions.push('punch'); }\naction = readlineSync.prompt({limit: availableActions});\n// ** But `promptCL` method should be used instead of this. **\n```\n\n#### For `keyIn*` method\n\n*Type:* string, number or Array \n*Default:* `[]`\n\nAccept only the key that matches value that is specified to this, ignore others. \nSpecify the characters as the key. All strings or Array of those are decomposed into single characters. For example, `'abcde'` or `['a', 'bc', ['d', 'e']]` are the same as `['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']`. \nThese strings are compared with the input. It is affected by [`caseSensitive`](#basic_options-casesensitive) option.\n\nThe [placeholders](#placeholders) like `'$<a-e>'` are replaced to an Array that is the character list like `['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']`.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\ndirection = readlineSync.keyIn('Left or Right? ', {limit: 'lr'}); // 'l' or 'r'\n```\n\n```js\ndice = readlineSync.keyIn('Roll the dice, What will the result be? ',\n {limit: '$<1-6>'}); // range of '1' to '6'\n```\n\n### `limitMessage`\n\n_For `question*` and `prompt*` methods only_ \n*Type:* string \n*Default:* `'Input another, please.$<( [)limit(])>'`\n\nDisplay this to the user when the [`limit`](#basic_options-limit) option is specified and the user input others. \nThe [placeholders](#placeholders) can be included.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nfile = readlineSync.question('Name of Text File: ', {\n limit: /\\.txt$/i,\n limitMessage: 'Sorry, $<lastInput> is not text file.'\n});\n```\n\n### `defaultInput`\n\n_For `question*` and `prompt*` methods only_ \n*Type:* string \n*Default:* `''`\n\nIf the user input empty text (i.e. pressed the Enter key only), return this.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nlang = readlineSync.question('Which language? ', {defaultInput: 'javascript'});\n```\n\n### `trueValue`, `falseValue`\n\n*Type:* string, number, RegExp, function or Array \n*Default:* `[]`\n\nIf the input matches `trueValue`, return `true`. If the input matches `falseValue`, return `false`. In any other case, return the input.\n\n* The string is compared with the input. And it interprets `'005'`, `'5files'`, `'5kb'` and `'5px'` as `5`. Note that in `keyIn*` method, the input is every time one character (i.e. the number that is specified must be an integer within the range of `0` to `9`).\n* The RegExp tests the input.\n* The function that returns a boolean to indicate whether it matches is called with the input.\n\nOne of above or an Array that includes multiple things (or Array includes Array) can be specified.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nanswer = readlineSync.question('How do you like it? ', {\n trueValue: ['yes', 'yeah', 'yep'],\n falseValue: ['no', 'nah', 'nope']\n});\nif (answer === true) {\n console.log('Let\\'s go!');\n} else if (answer === false) {\n console.log('Oh... It\\'s ok...');\n} else {\n console.log('Sorry. What does \"' + answer + '\" you said mean?');\n}\n```\n\n### `caseSensitive`\n\n*Type:* boolean \n*Default:* `false`\n\nBy default, the string comparisons are case-insensitive (i.e. `a` equals `A`). If `true` is specified, it is case-sensitive, the cases are not ignored (i.e. `a` is different from `A`). \nIt affects: [`limit`](#basic_options-limit), [`trueValue`](#basic_options-truevalue_falsevalue), [`falseValue`](#basic_options-truevalue_falsevalue), some [placeholders](#placeholders), and some [Utility Methods](#utility_methods).\n\n### `keepWhitespace`\n\n_For `question*` and `prompt*` methods only_ \n*Type:* boolean \n*Default:* `false`\n\nBy default, remove the leading and trailing white spaces from the input text. If `true` is specified, don't remove those.\n\n### `encoding`\n\n*Type:* string \n*Default:* `'utf8'`\n\nSet the encoding method of the input and output.\n\n### `bufferSize`\n\n_For `question*` and `prompt*` methods only_ \n*Type:* number \n*Default:* `1024`\n\nWhen readlineSync reads from a console directly (without [external program](#note-reading_by_external_program)), use a size `bufferSize` buffer. \nEven if the input by user exceeds it, it's usually no problem, because the buffer is used repeatedly. But some platforms's (e.g. Windows) console might not accept input that exceeds it. For example, the `{exists: false, isFile: true}` never check that it is a file because it is limited to the path that does not exist.\n\n##### `exists`\n\n*Type:* boolean or others \n*Default:* `true`\n\nIf `true` is specified, accept only a file or directory path that exists. If `false` is specified, accept only a file or directory path that does *not* exist. \nIn any other case, the existence is not checked.\n\n##### `min`, `max`\n\n*Type:* number or others \n*Default:* `undefined`\n\n`min`: A number as a minimum size of the file that is accepted. \n`max`: A number as a maximum size of the file that is accepted. \nIf it is not specified or `0` is specified, the size is not checked. (A size of directory is `0`.)\n\n##### `isFile`, `isDirectory`\n\n*Type:* boolean \n*Default:* `false`\n\n`isFile`: If `true` is specified, accept only a file path. \n`isDirectory`: If `true` is specified, accept only a directory path.\n\n##### `validate`\n\n*Type:* function or `undefined` \n*Default:* `undefined`\n\nIf a function that returns `true` or an error message is specified, call it with a path that was input, and accept the input when the function returned `true`. \nIf the function returned a string as an error message, that message is got by the [`error`](#utility_methods-questionpath-additional_placeholders-error) additional [placeholder](#placeholders) parameter. \nA path that was input is parsed before it is passed to the function. `~` is replaced to a home directory, and a path is converted to an absolute path. \nThis is also a return value from this method.\n\nFor example, accept only PNG file or tell it to the user:\n\n```js\nimageFile = readlineSync.questionPath('Image File: ', {\n validate: function(path) { return /\\.png$/i.test(path) || 'It is not PNG'; }\n});\n```\n\n##### `create`\n\n*Type:* boolean \n*Default:* `false`\n\nIf `true` is specified, create a file or directory as a path that was input when it doesn't exist. If `true` is specified to the [`isDirectory`](#utility_methods-questionpath-options-isfile_isdirectory) option, create a directory, otherwise a file. \nIt does not affect the existence check. Therefore, you can get a new file or directory path anytime by specifying: `{exists: false, create: true}`\n\n#### Additional Placeholders\n\nThe following additional [placeholder](#placeholders) parameters are available.\n\n##### `error`\n\nAn error message when the input was not accepted. \nThis value is set by readlineSync, or the function that was specified to [`validate`](#utility_methods-questionpath-options-validate) option.\n\n##### `min`, `max`\n\nA current value of [`min` and `max`](#utility_methods-questionpath-options-min_max) option.\n\n### `promptCL`\n\n```js\nargsArray = readlineSync.promptCL([commandHandler[, options]])\n```\n\nDisplay a prompt-sign (see [`prompt`](#basic_options-prompt) option) to the user, and then consider the input as a command-line and parse it, and then return a result after the Enter key was pressed. \nA return value is an Array that includes the tokens that were parsed. It parses the input from the user as the command-line, and it interprets whitespaces, quotes, etc., and it splits it to tokens properly. Usually, a first element of the Array is command-name, and remaining elements are arguments.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nargsArray = readlineSync.promptCL();\nconsole.log(argsArray.join('\\n'));\n```\n\n```console\n> command arg \"arg\" \" a r g \" \"\" 'a\"r\"g' \"a\"\"rg\" \"arg\ncommand\narg\narg\n a r g \n\na\"r\"g\narg\narg\n```\n\n#### `commandHandler`\n\nBy using the `commandHandler` argument, this method will come into its own. Specifying the Object to this argument has the more merit. And it has the more merit for [`promptCLLoop`](#utility_methods-promptclloop) method. \n\nIf a function is specified to `commandHandler` argument, it is just called with a parsed Array as an argument list of the function. And `this` is an original input string, in the function.\n\nFor example, the following 2 codes work same except that `this` is enabled in the second one:\n\n```js\nargsArray = readlineSync.promptCL();\nif (argsArray[0] === 'add') {\n console.log(argsArray[1] + ' is added.');\n} else if (argsArray[0] === 'copy') {\n console.log(argsArray[1] + ' is copied to ' + argsArray[2] + '.');\n}\n```\n\n```js\nreadlineSync.promptCL(function(command, arg1, arg2) {\n console.log('You want to: ' + this); // All of command-line.\n if (command === 'add') {\n console.log(arg1 + ' is added.');\n } else if (command === 'copy') {\n console.log(arg1 + ' is copied to ' + arg2 + '.');\n }\n});\n```\n\nIf an Object that has properties named as the command-name is specified, the command-name is interpreted, and a function as the value of matched property is called. A function is chosen properly by handling case of the command-name in accordance with the [`caseSensitive`](#basic_options-casesensitive) option. \nThe function is called with a parsed Array that excludes a command-name (i.e. first element is removed from the Array) as an argument list of the function. \nThat is, a structure of the `commandHandler` Object looks like:\n\n```js\n{\n commandA: function(arg) { ... }, // commandA requires one argument.\n commandB: function(arg1, arg2) { ... }, // readlineSync doesn't care those.\n commandC: function() { ... } // Of course, it can also ignore all.\n}\n```\n\nreadlineSync just receives the arguments from the user and passes those to these functions without checking. The functions may have to check whether the required argument was input by the user, and more validate those.\n\nFor example, the following code works same to the above code:\n\n```js\nreadlineSync.promptCL({\n add: function(element) { // It's called by also \"ADD\", \"Add\", \"aDd\", etc..\n console.log(element + ' is added.');\n },\n copy: function(from, to) {\n console.log(from + ' is copied to ' + to + '.');\n }\n});\n```\n\nIf the matched property is not found in the Object, a `_` property is chosen, and the function as the value of this property is called with a parsed Array as an argument list of the function. Note that the user has no chance to change the input. \nThis method works like the `window.confirm` method of web browsers. A return value means \"Yes\" or \"No\" the user said. It differ depending on the pressed key:\n\n* `Y`: `true`\n* `N`: `false`\n* other: `''`\n\nThe `query` is handled the same as that of the [`question`](#basic_methods-question) method. \nThe default value of `query` is `'Are you sure? Therefore, if you let the user make an important decision (e.g. files are removed), check whether the return value is not *falsy*. If you want to know a user's wish easily, use [`keyInYN`](#utility_methods-keyinyn) method.\n\nThis method works same to [`keyInYN`](#utility_methods-keyinyn) method except that this accept only `Y` or `N` key (Therefore, a return value is boolean every time). This is used to make the running of script pause and show something to the user, or wait for the user to be ready. \nBy default, any key is accepted (See: [Note](#utility_methods-keyinpause-note)). You can change this behavior by specifying [`limit`](#basic_options-limit) option (e.g. accept only a Space Bar).\n\nThe `query` is handled the same as that of the [`question`](#basic_methods-question) method. \nThe default value of `query` is `'Continue...'`.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\n// Have made the preparations for something...\nconsole.log('==== Information of Your Computer ====');\nconsole.log(info); // This can be `query`.\nreadlineSync.keyInPause();\nconsole.log('It\\'s executing now...');\n// Do something...\n```\n\n```console\n==== Information of Your Computer ====\nFOO: 123456\nBAR: abcdef\nContinue... Note that the user has no chance to change the input.\n\nThe `query` is handled the same as that of the [`question`](#basic_methods-question) method. \nThe default value of `query` is `'Choose one from list: '`.\n\nThe minimum length of `items` Array is 1 and maximum length is 35. These elements are displayed as item list. A key to let the user choose an item is assigned to each item automatically in sequence like \"1, 2, 3 ... 9, A, B, C ...\". A number as an index of the `items` Array that corresponds to a chosen item by the user is returned.\n\n**Note:** Even if the `items` Array has only less than 35 items, a long Array that forces an user to scroll the list may irritate the user. Remember, the user might be in a console environment that doesn't support scrolling the screen. If you want to use a long `items` Array (e.g. more than 10 items), you should consider a \"Pagination\". (See [example](https://github.com/anseki/readline-sync/issues/60#issuecomment-324533678).)\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\nframeworks = ['Express', 'hapi', 'flatiron', 'MEAN.JS', 'locomotive'];\nindex = readlineSync.keyInSelect(frameworks, 'Which framework?');\nconsole.log(frameworks[index] + ' is enabled.');\n```\n\n```console\n[1] Express\n[2] hapi\n[3] flatiron\n[4] MEAN.JS\n[5] locomotive\n[0] CANCEL\n\nWhich framework? For example, `'$$<foo>'` is replaced to `'$<foo>'`. If you want to put a `'$'` which is *not* an escape character at the left of a placeholder, specify it like `'$<($)bufferSize>'`, then it is replaced to `'$1024'`.\n\nAt the each position of `'(text1)'` and `'(text2)'`, `'text1'` and `'text2'` are put when a string that was got by a `parameter` has more than 0 length. If that got string is `''`, a placeholder with or without `'(text1)'` and `'(text2)'` is replaced to `''`.\n\nFor example, a warning message that means that the command the user requested is not available:\n\n```js\ncommand = readlineSync.prompt({\n limit: ['add', 'remove'],\n limitMessage: 'Refused $<lastInput> you requested. Please input another.'\n});\n```\n\n```console\n> give-me-car\nRefused give-me-car you requested. Please input another.\n```\n\nIt looks like no problem. \nBut when the user input nothing (hit only the Enter key), and then a message is displayed:\n\n```console\n> \nRefused you requested. Please input another.\n```\n\nThis goes well:\n\n```js\ncommand = readlineSync.prompt({\n limit: ['add', 'remove'],\n limitMessage: 'Refused $<lastInput( you requested)>. Please input another.'\n});\n```\n\n```console\n> \nRefused . Please input another.\n```\n\n(May be more better: `'$<(Refused )lastInput( you requested. )>Please input another.'`)\n\n**Note:** The syntax `${parameter}` of older version is still supported, but this should not be used because it may be confused with template string syntax of ES6. And this will not be supported in due course of time.\n\n### Parameters\n\nThe following parameters are available. The boolean value is replaced to `'on'` or `'off'`, and the Array is replaced to the list of only string and number elements. \nAnd in the `keyIn*` method, the parts of the list as characters sequence are suppressed. For example, when `['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']` is specified to the [`limit`](#basic_options-limit) option, `'$<limit>'` is replaced to `'a...e'`. If `true` is specified to the [`caseSensitive`](#basic_options-casesensitive) option, the characters are converted to lower case.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\ninput = readlineSync.question(\n 'Input something or the Enter key as \"$<defaultInput>\": ',\n {defaultInput: 'hello'}\n);\n```\n\n```console\nInput something or the Enter key as \"hello\":\n```\n\n#### `limitCount`, `limitCountNotZero`\n\nA length of a current value of the [`limit`](#basic_options-limit) option. \nWhen the value of the [`limit`](#basic_options-limit) option is empty, `'$<limitCount>'` is replaced to `'0'`, `'$<limitCountNotZero>'` is replaced to `''`.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\naction = readlineSync.question(\n 'Choose action$<( from )limitCountNotZero( actions)>: ',\n {limit: availableActions}\n);\n```\n\n```console\nChoose action from 5 actions:\n```\n\n#### `lastInput`\n\nA last input from the user. \nIn any case, this is saved.\n\nFor example:\n\n```js\ncommand = readlineSync.prompt({\n limit: availableCommands,\n limitMessage: '$<lastInput> is not available.'\n});\n```\n\n```console\n> wrong-command\nwrong-command is not available.\n```\n\n#### `history_mN`\n\nWhen the history expansion feature is enabled (see [`history`](#basic_opt",

It provides some utilities to efficiently\nperform some operations such as masking and unmasking the data payload of\nWebSocket frames.\n\n## Installation\n\n```\nnpm install bufferutil --save-optional\n```\n\nThe `--save-optional` flag tells npm to save the package in your package.json\nunder the\n[`optionalDependencies`](https://docs.npmjs.com/files/package.json#optionaldependencies)\nkey.\n\n## API\n\nThe module exports two functions. To maximize performance, parameters are not\nvalidated. It is the caller's responsibility to ensure that they are correct.\n\n### `bufferUtil.mask(source, mask, output, offset, length)`\n\nMasks a buffer using the given masking-key as specified by the WebSocket\nprotocol.\n\n#### Arguments\n\n- `source` - The buffer to mask.\n- `mask` - A buffer representing the masking-key.\n- `output` - The buffer where to store the result.\n- `offset` - The offset at which to start writing.\n- `length` - The number of bytes to mask.\n\n#### Example\n\n```js\n'use strict';\n\nconst bufferUtil = require('bufferutil');\nconst crypto = require('crypto');\n\nconst source = crypto.randomBytes(10);\nconst mask = crypto.randomBytes(4);\n\nbufferUtil.mask(source, mask, source, 0, source.length);\n```\n\n### `bufferUtil.unmask(buffer, mask)`\n\nUnmasks a buffer using the given masking-key as specified by the WebSocket\nprotocol.\n\n#### Arguments\n\n- `buffer` - The buffer to unmask.\n- `mask` - A buffer representing the masking-key.\n\n#### Example\n\n```js\n'use strict';\n\nconst bufferUtil = require('bufferutil');\nconst crypto = require('crypto');\n\nconst buffer = crypto.randomBytes(10);\nconst mask = crypto.randomBytes(4);\n\nbufferUtil.unmask(buffer, mask);\n```\n\n## License\n\n[MIT](LICENSE)",

 "readme": "# path-expression-matcher\n\nEfficient path tracking and pattern matching for XML, JSON, YAML or any other parsers.\n\n## 🎯 Purpose\n\n`path-expression-matcher` provides three core classes for tracking and matching paths:\n\n- **`Expression`**: Parses and stores pattern expressions (e.g., `\"root.users.user[id]\"`)\n- **`Matcher`**: Tracks current path during parsing and matches against expressions\n- **`MatcherView`**: A lightweight read-only view of a `Matcher`, safe to pass to callbacks\n\nCompatible with [fast-xml-parser](https://github.com/NaturalIntelligence/fast-xml-parser) and similar tools.\n\n## 📦 Installation\n\n```bash\nnpm install path-expression-matcher\n```\n\n## 🚀 Quick Start\n\n```javascript\nimport { Expression, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\n// Create expression (parse once, reuse many times)\nconst expr = new Expression(\"root.users.user\");\n\n// Create matcher (tracks current path)\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\n\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nmatcher.push(\"users\");\nmatcher.push(\"user\", { id: \"123\" });\n\n// Match current path against expression\nif (matcher.matches(expr)) {\n console.log(\"Match found!\");\n console.log(\"Current path:\", matcher.toString()); // \"root.users.user\"\n}\n\n// Namespace support\nconst nsExpr = new Expression(\"soap::Envelope.soap::Body..ns::UserId\");\nmatcher.push(\"Envelope\", null, \"soap\");\nmatcher.push(\"Body\", null, \"soap\");\nmatcher.push(\"UserId\", null, \"ns\");\nconsole.log(matcher.toString()); // \"soap:Envelope.soap:Body.ns:UserId\"\n```\n\n## 📖 Pattern Syntax\n\n### Basic Paths\n\n```javascript\n\"root.users.user\" // Exact path match\n\"*.users.user\" // Wildcard: any parent\n\"root.*.user\" // Wildcard: any middle\n\"root.users.*\" // Wildcard: any child\n```\n\n### Deep Wildcard\n\n```javascript\n\"..user\" // user anywhere in tree\n\"root..user\" // user anywhere under root\n\"..users..user\" // users somewhere, then user below it\n```\n\n### Attribute Matching\n\n```javascript\n\"user[id]\" // user with \"id\" attribute\n\"user[type=admin]\" // user with type=\"admin\" (current node only)\n\"root[lang]..user\" // user under root that has \"lang\" attribute\n```\n\n### Position Selectors\n\n```javascript\n\"user:first\" // First user (counter=0)\n\"user:nth(2)\" // Third user (counter=2, zero-based)\n\"user:odd\" // Odd-numbered users (counter=1,3,5...)\n\"user:even\" // Even-numbered users (counter=0,2,4...)\n\"root.users.user:first\" // First user under users\n```\n\n**Note:** Position selectors use the **counter** (occurrence count of the tag name), not the position (child index). For example, in `<root></root>`, the second `` has position=2 but counter=1.\n\n### Namespaces\n\n```javascript\n\"ns::user\" // user with namespace \"ns\"\n\"soap::Envelope\" // Envelope with namespace \"soap\"\n\"ns::user[id]\" // user with namespace \"ns\" and \"id\" attribute\n\"ns::user:first\" // First user with namespace \"ns\"\n\"*::user\" // user with any namespace\n\"..ns::item\" // item with namespace \"ns\" anywhere in tree\n\"soap::Envelope.soap::Body\" // Nested namespaced elements\n\"ns::first\" // Tag named \"first\" with namespace \"ns\" (NO ambiguity!)\n```\n\n**Namespace syntax:**\n- Use **double colon (::)** for namespace: `ns::tag`\n- Use **single colon (:)** for position: `tag:first`\n- Combined: `ns::tag:first` (namespace + tag + position)\n\n**Namespace matching rules:**\n- Pattern `ns::user` matches only nodes with namespace \"ns\" and tag \"user\"\n- Pattern `user` (no namespace) matches nodes with tag \"user\" regardless of namespace\n- Pattern `*::user` matches tag \"user\" with any namespace (wildcard namespace)\n- Namespaces are tracked separately for counter/position (e.g., `ns1::item` and `ns2::item` have independent counters)\n\n### Wildcard Differences\n\n**Single wildcard (`*`)** - Matches exactly ONE level:\n- `\"*.fix1\"` matches `root.fix1` (2 levels) ✅\n- `\"*.fix1\"` does NOT match `root.another.fix1` (3 levels) ❌\n- Path depth MUST equal pattern depth\n\n**Deep wildcard (`..`)** - Matches ZERO or MORE levels:\n- `\"..fix1\"` matches `root.fix1` ✅\n- `\"..fix1\"` matches `root.another.fix1` ✅\n- `\"..fix1\"` matches `a.b.c.d.fix1` ✅\n- Works at any depth\n\n### Combined Patterns\n\n```javascript\n\"..user[id]:first\" // First user with id, anywhere\n\"root..user[type=admin]\" // Admin user under root\n\"ns::user[id]:first\" // First namespaced user with id\n\"soap::Envelope..ns::UserId\" // UserId with namespace ns under SOAP envelope\n```\n\n## 🔧 API Reference\n\n### Expression\n\n#### Constructor\n\n```javascript\nnew Expression(pattern, options = {}, data)\n```\n\n**Parameters:**\n- `pattern` (string): Pattern to parse\n- `options.separator` (string): Path separator (default: `'.'`)\n\n**Example:**\n```javascript\nconst expr1 = new Expression(\"root.users.user\");\nconst expr2 = new Expression(\"root/users/user\", { separator: '/' });\nconst expr3 = new Expression(\"root/users/user\", { separator: '/' }, { extra: \"data\"});\nconsole.log(expr3.data) // { extra: \"data\" }\n```\n\n#### Methods\n\n- `hasDeepWildcard()` → boolean\n- `hasAttributeCondition()` → boolean\n- `hasPositionSelector()` → boolean\n- `toString()` → string\n\n### Matcher\n\n#### Constructor\n\n```javascript\nnew Matcher(options)\n```\n\n**Parameters:**\n- `options.separator` (string): Default path separator (default: `'.'`)\n\n#### Path Tracking Methods\n\n##### `push(tagName, attrValues, namespace)`\n\nAdd a tag to the current path. Position and counter are automatically calculated.\n\n**Parameters:**\n- `tagName` (string): Tag name\n- `attrValues` (object, optional): Attribute key-value pairs (current node only)\n- `namespace` (string, optional): Namespace for the tag\n\n**Example:**\n```javascript\nmatcher.push(\"user\", { id: \"123\", type: \"admin\" });\nmatcher.push(\"item\"); // No attributes\nmatcher.push(\"Envelope\", null, \"soap\"); // With namespace\nmatcher.push(\"Body\", { version: \"1.1\" }, \"soap\"); // With both\n```\n\n**Position vs Counter:**\n- **Position**: The child index in the parent (0, 1, 2, 3...)\n- **Counter**: How many times this tag name appeared at this level (0, 1, 2...)\n\nExample:\n```xml\n<root>\n \n \n \n</root>\n```\n\n##### `pop()`\n\nRemove the last tag from the path.\n\n```javascript\nmatcher.pop();\n```\n\n##### `updateCurrent(attrValues)`\n\nUpdate current node's attributes (useful when attributes are parsed after push).\n\n```javascript\nmatcher.push(\"user\"); // Don't know values yet\n// ... parse attributes ...\nmatcher.updateCurrent({ id: \"123\" });\n```\n\n##### `reset()`\n\nClear the entire path.\n\n```javascript\nmatcher.reset();\n```\n\n#### Query Methods\n\n##### `matches(expression)`\n\nCheck if current path matches an Expression.\n\n```javascript\nconst expr = new Expression(\"root.users.user\");\nif (matcher.matches(expr)) {\n // Current path matches\n}\n```\n\n#### `matchesAny(exprSet)` → `boolean`\n\nPlease check `ExpressionSet` class for more details. \n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nconst exprSet = new ExpressionSet();\nexprSet.add(new Expression(\"root.users.user\"));\nexprSet.add(new Expression(\"root.config.*\"));\nexprSet.seal();\n\nif (matcher.matchesAny(exprSet)) {\n // Current path matches any expression in the set\n}\n```\n\n##### `getCurrentTag()`\n\nGet current tag name.\n\n```javascript\nconst tag = matcher.getCurrentTag(); // \"user\"\n```\n\n##### `getCurrentNamespace()`\n\nGet current namespace.\n\n```javascript\nconst ns = matcher.getCurrentNamespace(); // \"soap\" or undefined\n```\n\n##### `getAttrValue(attrName)`\n\nGet attribute value of current node.\n\n```javascript\nconst id = matcher.getAttrValue(\"id\"); // \"123\"\n```\n\n##### `hasAttr(attrName)`\n\nCheck if current node has an attribute.\n\n```javascript\nif (matcher.hasAttr(\"id\")) {\n // Current node has \"id\" attribute\n}\n```\n\n##### `getPosition()`\n\nGet sibling position of current node (child index in parent).\n\n```javascript\nconst position = matcher.getPosition(); // 0, 1, 2, ...\n```\n\n##### `getCounter()`\n\nGet repeat counter of current node (occurrence count of this tag name).\n\n```javascript\nconst counter = matcher.getCounter(); // 0, 1, 2, ...\n```\n\n##### `getIndex()` (deprecated)\n\nAlias for `getPosition()`. Use `getPosition()` or `getCounter()` instead for clarity.\n\n```javascript\nconst index = matcher.getIndex(); // Same as getPosition()\n```\n\n##### `getDepth()`\n\nGet current path depth.\n\n```javascript\nconst depth = matcher.getDepth(); // 3 for \"root.users.user\"\n```\n\n##### `toString(separator?, includeNamespace?)`\n\nGet path as string.\n\n**Parameters:**\n- `separator` (string, optional): Path separator (uses default if not provided)\n- `includeNamespace` (boolean, optional): Whether to include namespaces (default: true)\n\n```javascript\nconst path = matcher.toString(); // \"root.ns:user.item\"\nconst path2 = matcher.toString('/'); // \"root/ns:user/item\"\nconst path3 = matcher.toString('.', false); // \"root.user.item\" (no namespaces)\n```\n\n##### `toArray()`\n\nGet path as array.\n\n```javascript\nconst arr = matcher.toArray(); // [\"root\", \"users\", \"user\"]\n```\n\n#### State Management\n\n##### `snapshot()`\n\nCreate a snapshot of current state.\n\n```javascript\nconst snapshot = matcher.snapshot();\n```\n\n##### `restore(snapshot)`\n\nRestore from a snapshot.\n\n```javascript\nmatcher.restore(snapshot);\n```\n\n#### Read-Only Access\n\n##### `readOnly()`\n\nReturns a **`MatcherView`** — a lightweight, live read-only view of the matcher. All query and inspection methods work normally and always reflect the current state of the underlying matcher. Mutation methods (`push`, `pop`, `reset`, `updateCurrent`, `restore`) simply don't exist on `MatcherView`, so misuse is caught at **compile time** by TypeScript rather than at runtime.\n\nThe **same instance** is returned on every call — no allocation occurs per invocation. This is the recommended way to share the matcher with callbacks, plugins, or any external code that only needs to inspect the current path.\n\n```javascript\nconst view = matcher.readOnly();\n// Same reference every time — safe to cache\nview === matcher.readOnly(); // true\n```\n\n**What works on the view:**\n\n```javascript\nview.matches(expr) // ✓ pattern matching\nview.getCurrentTag() // ✓ current tag name\nview.getCurrentNamespace() // ✓ current namespace\nview.getAttrValue(\"id\") // ✓ attribute value\nview.hasAttr(\"id\") // ✓ attribute presence check\nview.getPosition() // ✓ sibling position\nview.getCounter() // ✓ occurrence counter\nview.getDepth() // ✓ path depth\nview.toString() // ✓ path as string\nview.toArray() // ✓ path as array\n```\n\n**What doesn't exist (compile-time error in TypeScript):**\n\n```javascript\nview.push(\"child\", {}) // ✗ Property 'push' does not exist on type 'MatcherView'\nview.pop() // ✗ Property 'pop' does not exist on type 'MatcherView'\nview.reset() // ✗ Property 'reset' does not exist on type 'MatcherView'\nview.updateCurrent({}) // ✗ Property 'updateCurrent' does not exist on type 'MatcherView'\nview.restore(snapshot) // ✗ Property 'restore' does not exist on type 'MatcherView'\n```\n\n**The view is live** — it always reflects the current state of the underlying matcher.\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nconst view = matcher.readOnly();\n\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nview.getDepth(); // 1 — immediately reflects the push\nmatcher.push(\"users\");\nview.getDepth(); // 2 — still live\n```\n\n## 💡 Usage Examples\n\n### Example 1: XML Parser with stopNodes\n\n```javascript\nimport { XMLParser } from 'fast-xml-parser';\nimport { Expression, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\nclass MyParser {\n constructor() {\n this.matcher = new Matcher();\n \n // Pre-compile stop node patterns\n this.stopNodeExpressions = [\n new Expression(\"html.body.script\"),\n new Expression(\"html.body.style\"),\n new Expression(\"..svg\"),\n ];\n }\n \n parseTag(tagName, attrs) {\n this.matcher.push(tagName, attrs);\n \n // Check if this is a stop node\n for (const expr of this.stopNodeExpressions) {\n if (this.matcher.matches(expr)) {\n // Don't parse children, read as raw text\n return this.readRawContent();\n }\n }\n \n // Continue normal parsing\n this.parseChildren();\n \n this.matcher.pop();\n }\n}\n```\n\n### Example 2: Conditional Processing\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nconst userExpr = new Expression(\"..user[type=admin]\");\nconst firstItemExpr = new Expression(\"..item:first\");\n\nfunction processTag(tagName, value, attrs) {\n matcher.push(tagName, attrs);\n \n if (matcher.matches(userExpr)) {\n value = enhanceAdminUser(value);\n }\n \n if (matcher.matches(firstItemExpr)) {\n value = markAsFirst(value);\n }\n \n matcher.pop();\n return value;\n}\n```\n\n### Example 3: Path-based Filtering\n\n```javascript\nconst patterns = [\n new Expression(\"data.users.user\"),\n new Expression(\"data.posts.post\"),\n new Expression(\"..comment[approved=true]\"),\n];\n\nfunction shouldInclude(matcher) {\n return patterns.some(expr => matcher.matches(expr));\n}\n```\n\n### Example 4: Custom Separator\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher({ separator: '/' });\nconst expr = new Expression(\"root/config/database\", { separator: '/' });\n\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nmatcher.push(\"config\");\nmatcher.push(\"database\");\n\nconsole.log(matcher.toString()); // \"root/config/database\"\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(expr)); // true\n```\n\n### Example 5: Attribute Checking\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nmatcher.push(\"user\", { id: \"123\", type: \"admin\", status: \"active\" });\n\n// Check attribute existence (current node only)\nconsole.log(matcher.hasAttr(\"id\")); // true\nconsole.log(matcher.hasAttr(\"email\")); // false\n\n// Get attribute value (current node only)\nconsole.log(matcher.getAttrValue(\"type\")); // \"admin\"\n\n// Match by attribute\nconst expr1 = new Expression(\"user[id]\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(expr1)); // true\n\nconst expr2 = new Expression(\"user[type=admin]\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(expr2)); // true\n```\n\n### Example 6: Position vs Counter\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\n\n// Mixed tags at same level\nmatcher.push(\"item\"); // position=0, counter=0 (first item)\nmatcher.pop();\n\nmatcher.push(\"div\"); // position=1, counter=0 (first div)\nmatcher.pop();\n\nmatcher.push(\"item\"); // position=2, counter=1 (second item)\n\nconsole.log(matcher.getPosition()); // 2 (third child overall)\nconsole.log(matcher.getCounter()); // 1 (second \"item\" specifically)\n\n// :first uses counter, not position\nconst expr = new Expression(\"root.item:first\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(expr)); // false (counter=1, not 0)\n```\n\n### Example 8: Passing a Read-Only View to External Consumers\n\nWhen passing the matcher into callbacks, plugins, or other code you don't control, use `readOnly()` to get a `MatcherView` — it can inspect but never mutate parser state.\n\n```javascript\nimport { Expression, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\n\nconst adminExpr = new Expression(\"..user[type=admin]\");\n\nfunction parseTag(tagName, attrs, onTag) {\n matcher.push(tagName, attrs);\n\n // Pass MatcherView — consumer can inspect but not mutate\n onTag(matcher.readOnly());\n\n matcher.pop();\n}\n\n// Safe consumer — can only read\nfunction myPlugin(view) {\n if (view.matches(adminExpr)) {\n console.log(\"Admin at path:\", view.toString());\n console.log(\"Depth:\", view.getDepth());\n console.log(\"ID:\", view.getAttrValue(\"id\"));\n }\n}\n\n// view.push(...) or view.reset() don't exist on MatcherView —\n// TypeScript catches misuse at compile time.\nparseTag(\"user\", { id: \"1\", type: \"admin\" }, myPlugin);\n```\n\n```javascript\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\nconst soapExpr = new Expression(\"soap::Envelope.soap::Body..ns::UserId\");\n\n// Parse SOAP document\nmatcher.push(\"Envelope\", { xmlns: \"...\" }, \"soap\");\nmatcher.push(\"Body\", null, \"soap\");\nmatcher.push(\"GetUserRequest\", null, \"ns\");\nmatcher.push(\"UserId\", null, \"ns\");\n\n// Match namespaced pattern\nif (matcher.matches(soapExpr)) {\n console.log(\"Found UserId in SOAP body\");\n console.log(matcher.toString()); // \"soap:Envelope.soap:Body.ns:GetUserRequest.ns:UserId\"\n}\n\n// Namespace-specific counters\nmatcher.reset();\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nmatcher.push(\"item\", null, \"ns1\"); // ns1::item counter=0\nmatcher.pop();\nmatcher.push(\"item\", null, \"ns2\"); // ns2::item counter=0 (different namespace)\nmatcher.pop();\nmatcher.push(\"item\", null, \"ns1\"); // ns1::item counter=1\n\nconst firstNs1Item = new Expression(\"root.ns1::item:first\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(firstNs1Item)); // false (counter=1)\n\nconst secondNs1Item = new Expression(\"root.ns1::item:nth(1)\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(secondNs1Item)); // true\n\n// NO AMBIGUITY: Tags named after position keywords\nmatcher.reset();\nmatcher.push(\"root\");\nmatcher.push(\"first\", null, \"ns\"); // Tag named \"first\" with namespace\n\nconst expr = new Expression(\"root.ns::first\");\nconsole.log(matcher.matches(expr)); // true - matches namespace \"ns\", tag \"first\"\n```\n\n## 🏗️ Architecture\n\n### Data Storage Strategy\n\n**Ancestor nodes:** Store only tag name, position, and counter (minimal memory)\n**Current node:** Store tag name, position, counter, and attribute values\n\nThis design minimizes memory usage:\n- No attribute names stored (derived from values object when needed)\n- Attribute values only for current node, not ancestors\n- Attribute checking for ancestors is not supported (acceptable trade-off)\n- For 1M nodes with 3 attributes each, saves ~50MB vs storing attribute names\n\n### Matching Strategy\n\nMatching is performed **bottom-to-top** (from current node toward root):\n1. Start at current node\n2. Match segments from pattern end to start\n3. Attribute checking only works for current node (ancestors have no attribute data)\n4. Position selectors use **counter** (occurrence count), not position (child index)\n\n### Performance\n\n- **Expression parsing:** One-time cost when Expression is created\n- **Expression analysis:** Cached (hasDeepWildcard, hasAttributeCondition, hasPositionSelector)\n- **Path tracking:** O(1) for push/pop operations\n- **Pattern matching:** O(n*m) where n = path depth, m = pattern segments\n- **Memory per ancestor node:** ~40-60 bytes (tag, position, counter only)\n- **Memory per current node:** ~80-120 bytes (adds attribute values)\n\n## 🎓 Design Patterns\n\n### Pre-compile Patterns (Recommended)\n\n```javascript\n// ✅ GOOD: Parse once, reuse many times\nconst expr = new Expression(\"..user[id]\");\n\nfor (let i = 0; i < 1000; i++) {\n if (matcher.matches(expr)) {\n // ...\n }\n}\n```\n\n```javascript\n// ❌ BAD: Parse on every iteration\nfor (let i = 0; i < 1000; i++) {\n if (matcher.matches(new Expression(\"..user[id]\"))) {\n // ...\n }\n}\n```\n\n### Batch Pattern Checking with ExpressionSet (Recommended)\n\nFor checking multiple patterns on every tag, use `ExpressionSet` instead of a manual loop.\nIt pre-indexes expressions at build time so each call to `matchesAny()` does an O(1) bucket\nlookup rather than a full O(N) scan:\n\n```javascript\nimport { Expression, ExpressionSet, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\n// Build once at config/startup time\nconst stopNodes = new ExpressionSet();\nstopNodes\n .add(new Expression('root.users.user'))\n .add(new Expression('root.config.*'))\n .add(new Expression('..script'))\n .seal(); // prevent accidental mutation during parsing\n\n// Per-tag — hot path\nif (stopNodes.matchesAny(matcher)) {\n // handle stop node\n}\n```\n\nThis replaces the manual loop pattern:\n\n```javascript\n// ❌ Before — O(N) per tag\nfunction isStopNode(expressions, matcher) {\n for (let i = 0; i < expressions.length; i++) {\n if (matcher.matches(expressions[i])) return true;\n }\n return false;\n}\n\n// ✅ After — O(1) lookup per tag\nconst stopNodes = new ExpressionSet();\nstopNodes.addAll(expressions);\nstopNodes.matchesAny(matcher);\n//or matcher.matchesAny(stopNodes)\n```\n\n---\n\n## 📦 ExpressionSet API\n\n`ExpressionSet` is an indexed collection of `Expression` objects designed for efficient\nbulk matching. Build it once from your config, then call `matchesAny()` on every tag.\n\n### Constructor\n\n```javascript\nconst set = new ExpressionSet();\n```\n\n### `add(expression)` → `this`\n\nAdd a single `Expression`. Duplicate patterns (same pattern string) are silently ignored.\nReturns `this` for chaining. Throws `TypeError` if the set is sealed.\n\n```javascript\nset.add(new Expression('root.users.user'));\nset.add(new Expression('..script'));\n```\n\n### `addAll(expressions)` → `this`\n\nAdd an array of `Expression` objects at once. Returns `this` for chaining.\n\n```javascript\nset.addAll(config.stopNodes.map(p => new Expression(p)));\n```\n\n### `has(expression)` → `boolean`\n\nCheck whether an expression with the same pattern is already present.\n\n```javascript\nset.has(new Expression('root.users.user')); // true / false\n```\n\n### `seal()` → `this`\n\nPrevent further additions. Any subsequent call to `add()` or `addAll()` throws a `TypeError`.\nUseful to guard against accidental mutation once parsing has started.\n\n```javascript\nconst stopNodes = new ExpressionSet();\nstopNodes.addAll(patterns).seal();\n\nstopNodes.add(new Expression('root.extra')); // ❌ TypeError: ExpressionSet is sealed\n```\n\n### `size` → `number`\n\nNumber of distinct expressions in the set.\n\n```javascript\nset.size; // 3\n```\n\n### `isSealed` → `boolean`\n\nWhether `seal()` has been called.\n\n### `matchesAny(matcher)` → `boolean`\n\nReturns `true` if the matcher's current path matches **any** expression in the set.\nAccepts both a `Matcher` instance and a `MatcherView`.\n\n```javascript\nif (stopNodes.matchesAny(matcher)) { /* ... */ }\nif (stopNodes.matchesAny(matcher.readOnly())) { /* ... */ } // also works\n```\n\n**How indexing works:** expressions are bucketed at `add()` time, not at match time.\n\n| Expression type | Bucket | Lookup cost |\n|---|---|---|\n| Fixed path, concrete tag (`root.users.user`) | `depth:tag` map | O(1) |\n| Fixed path, wildcard tag (`root.config.*`) | `depth` map | O(1) |\n| Deep wildcard (`..script`) | flat list | O(D) — always scanned |\n\nIn practice, deep-wildcard expressions are rare in configs, so the list stays small.\n\n### `findMatch(matcher)` → `Expression`\n\nReturns the Expression instance that matched the current path. Accepts both a `Matcher` instance and a `MatcherView`.\n\n```javascript\nconst node = stopNodes.findMatch(matcher);\n```\n\n\n### Example 7: ExpressionSet in a real parser loop\n\n```javascript\nimport { XMLParser } from 'fast-xml-parser';\nimport { Expression, ExpressionSet, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\n// Config-time setup\nconst stopNodes = new ExpressionSet();\nstopNodes\n .addAll(['script', 'style'].map(t => new Expression(`..${t}`)))\n .seal();\n\nconst matcher = new Matcher();\n\nconst parser = new XMLParser({\n onOpenTag(tagName, attrs) {\n matcher.push(tagName, attrs);\n if (stopNodes.matchesAny(matcher)) {\n // treat as stop node\n }\n },\n onCloseTag() {\n matcher.pop();\n },\n});\n```\n\n\n\n## 🔗 Integration with fast-xml-parser\n\n**Basic integration:**\n\n```javascript\nimport { XMLParser } from 'fast-xml-parser';\nimport { Expression, Matcher } from 'path-expression-matcher';\n\nconst parser = new XMLParser({\n // Custom options using path-expression-matcher\n stopNodes: [\"script\", \"style\"].map(tag => new Expression(`..${tag}`)),\n \n tagValueProcessor: (tagName, value, jPath, hasAttrs, isLeaf, matcher) => {\n // matcher is available in callbacks\n if (matcher.matches(new Expression(\"..user[type=admin]\"))) {\n return enhanceValue(value);\n }\n return value;\n }\n});\n```\n\n## 📄 License\n\nMIT\n\n## 🤝 Contributing\n\nIssues and PRs welcome! This package is designed to be used by XML/JSON parsers like fast-xml-parser. But can be used with any formar parser.",

This version supports Node 12, 14, 16 and 18, as well as evergreen browsers.\nThe breaking changes introduced by v4 are composed of the combined breaking changes in:\n* [Node v12](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v12.0.0/)\n* [Node v13](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v13.0.0/)\n* [Node v14](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v14.0.0/)\n* [Node v15](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v15.0.0/)\n* [Node v16](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v16.0.0/)\n* [Node v17](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v17.0.0/)\n* [Node v18](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v18.0.0/)\n\nThis also includes _many_ new features.\n\n## Version 3.x.x\n\nv3.x.x of `readable-stream` is a cut from Node 10. This version supports Node 6, 8, and 10, as well as evergreen browsers, IE 11 and latest Safari. The breaking changes introduced by v3 are composed by the combined breaking changes in [Node v9](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v9.0.0/) and [Node v10](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v10.0.0/), as follows:\n\n1. Error codes: https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/13310,\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/13291,\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/16589,\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/15042,\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/15665,\n https://github.com/nodejs/readable-stream/pull/344\n2. 'readable' have precedence over flowing\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/18994\n3. make virtual methods errors consistent\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/18813\n4. updated streams error handling\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/18438\n5. writable.end should return this.\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/18780\n6. readable continues to read when push('')\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/18211\n7. add custom inspect to BufferList\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/17907\n8. always defer 'readable' with nextTick\n https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/17979\n\n## Version 2.x.x\n\nv2.x.x of `readable-stream` is a cut of the stream module from Node 8 (there have been no semver-major changes from Node 4 to 8). This version supports all Node.js versions from 0.8, as well as evergreen browsers and IE 10 & 11.\n\n# Usage\n\nYou can swap your `require('stream')` with `require('readable-stream')`\nwithout any changes, if you are just using one of the main classes and\nfunctions.\n\n```js\nconst {\n Readable,\n Writable,\n Transform,\n Duplex,\n pipeline,\n finished\n} = require('readable-stream')\n```\n\nNote that `require('stream')` will return `Stream`, while\n`require('readable-stream')` will return `Readable`. We discourage using\nwhatever is exported directly, but rather use one of the properties as\nshown in the example above.\n\n## Usage In Browsers\n\nYou will need a bundler like [`browserify`](https://github.com/browserify/browserify#readme), [`webpack`](https://webpack.js.org/), [`parcel`](https://github.com/parcel-bundler/parcel#readme) or similar. Polyfills are no longer required since version 4.2.0.\n\n# Streams Working Group\n\n`readable-stream` is maintained by the Streams Working Group, which\noversees the development and maintenance of the Streams API within\nNode.js. The responsibilities of the Streams Working Group include:\n\n- Addressing stream issues on the Node.js issue tracker.\n- Authoring and editing stream documentation within the Node.js project.\n- Reviewing changes to stream subclasses within the Node.js project.\n- Redirecting changes to streams from the Node.js project to this\n project.\n- Assisting in the implementation of stream providers within Node.js.\n- Recommending versions of `readable-stream` to be included in Node.js.\n- Messaging about the future of streams to give the community advance\n notice of changes.\n\n\n\n## Team Members\n\n- **Mathias Buus** ([@mafintosh](https://github.com/mafintosh)) <mathiasbuus@gmail.com>\n- **Matteo Collina** ([@mcollina](https://github.com/mcollina)) <matteo.collina@gmail.com>\n - Release GPG key: 3ABC01543F22DD2239285CDD818674489FBC127E\n- **Robert Nagy** ([@ronag](https://github.com/ronag)) <ronagy@icloud.com>\n- **Vincent Weevers** ([@vweevers](https://github.com/vweevers)) <mail@vincentweevers.nl>",
