# @warp-drive/memory-alpha
2
20
3
-
21
+
Named after the Federation's central archive of all recorded knowledge, this package is WarpDrive's
22
+
own Memory Alpha for coding agents: a database of everything they need to know, packaged as plain
23
+
markdown, minus the away-team incident that torched the original.
24
+
25
+
## For Agents
26
+
27
+
Find the single row below that matches your task and read **only** that file. Do not read
28
+
other skill files, do not list or read whole directories — this table is enough to route you.
29
+
30
+
| If you need to... | Read exactly |
31
+
| --- | --- |
32
+
| Define a resource's shape — fields, relationships, identity — for the `Store` | `skills/schemas/define-a-resource-schema.md` |
33
+
| Fetch or query remote data through the `Store` so it's cached and reactive | `skills/requests/fetch-and-cache-data.md` |
34
+
| You're contributing to WarpDrive itself, not just consuming it as a dependency | `skills/contributors/index.md` |
35
+
36
+
This table is kept in sync with [`skills/index.md`](./skills/index.md), which is the same
37
+
routing table published inside the package itself for tooling that lands directly in `skills/`
38
+
without reading this README first.
39
+
40
+
## Editor & Agent Setup
41
+
42
+
This repo wires the routing table above into every agent surface it develops against, and each
43
+
one just points back to [`skills/index.md`](./skills/index.md) so there's a single place to
44
+
update:
45
+
46
+
| Agent | File |
47
+
| --- | --- |
48
+
| Claude Code | [`/CLAUDE.md`](../../CLAUDE.md) |
49
+
| Codex, Grok, Cursor, and other tools following the open [AGENTS.md](https://agents.md) convention | [`/AGENTS.md`](../../AGENTS.md) |
50
+
| Gemini CLI | [`/GEMINI.md`](../../GEMINI.md) |
51
+
| GitHub Copilot | [`/.github/copilot-instructions.md`](../../.github/copilot-instructions.md) |
52
+
| Cursor (project rule, in addition to its AGENTS.md support) | [`/.cursor/rules/memory-alpha.mdc`](../../.cursor/rules/memory-alpha.mdc) |
53
+
54
+
Consuming this package from an app instead of contributing to WarpDrive itself? Copy whichever
55
+
of those files matches your agent into your own repo and swap the path for
56
+
`node_modules/@warp-drive/memory-alpha/skills/index.md`.
57
+
58
+
## Structure
59
+
60
+
This package has no code and no dependencies — it is a directory of markdown files, organized
61
+
by topic, meant to be read directly (by an MCP server, a build script, a human) rather than
62
+
imported. Every file under [`skills`](./skills) is plain markdown with **no YAML frontmatter**
63
+
of its own, so that downstream tooling adapting this content into tool-specific formats (Claude
64
+
Skills, Cursor rules, Copilot instructions, etc.) is free to add whatever frontmatter shape that
65
+
tool expects without colliding with WarpDrive's own doc-site metadata.
66
+
67
+
Structure and per-file metadata instead live in a single `_meta.json` per directory:
68
+
69
+
- `title` / `collapsed` / `draft` — metadata for the directory itself. Directories without a
70
+
`_meta.json` are ordered alphabetically with an auto-generated title.
71
+
- `items` — ordered list of child slugs (filenames without `.md`, or subdirectory names).
72
+
Unlisted items sort alphabetically after listed ones.
73
+
- `files` — per-file metadata, keyed by filename without `.md` (e.g. `"title"`/`"draft"` for
74
+
that file).
75
+
- `webIndex` — (root directory only, currently) the filename (without `.md`) to publish as
76
+
`index.md` on the docs website in place of the real one. `skills/index.md` is the agent
77
+
routing table above and is marked `draft` so it's excluded from the website entirely;
78
+
[`skills/overview.md`](./skills/overview.md) is the human-facing landing page and is what
79
+
`webIndex: "overview"` publishes at [warp-drive.io/skills](https://warp-drive.io/skills)
80
+
instead. Only the docs site's synced copy is affected — the npm package always ships both files.
81
+
82
+
```json
83
+
{
84
+
"title": "Schemas",
85
+
"items": ["define-a-resource-schema"],
86
+
"files": {
87
+
"define-a-resource-schema": { "title": "Define a Resource Schema" }
88
+
}
89
+
}
90
+
```
91
+
92
+
This same `skills` directory is synced into [the WarpDrive docs site](https://warp-drive.io/skills)
93
+
under the "Skills" section, using the same markdown-plus-JSON compilation tooling as the
94
+
[Guides](https://warp-drive.io/guides) section.
95
+
96
+
## Usage
97
+
98
+
Install the package and read markdown files directly from `node_modules`:
99
+
100
+
```sh
101
+
npm install @warp-drive/memory-alpha
102
+
```
103
+
104
+
```ts
105
+
import { readFileSync } from 'node:fs';
106
+
import { createRequire } from 'node:module';
107
+
108
+
const require = createRequire(import.meta.url);
109
+
const pkgPath = require.resolve('@warp-drive/memory-alpha/package.json');
110
+
const skill = readFileSync(pkgPath.replace('package.json', 'skills/schemas/define-a-resource-schema.md'), 'utf-8');
111
+
```
112
+
113
+
Or point an MCP filesystem/docs server, a Claude Code skill, or any other agent tooling at the
114
+
installed package's `skills` directory.
