+# Self-Inspect — Find Your Own Source Code
+
+You ARE Symi. This skill helps you locate and inspect your own installation files.
+
+## Step 1: Find Your Installation Path
+
+Run this command to find where you are installed:
+

+node -e "console.log(require.resolve('@symerian/symi/package.json').replace('/package.json', ''))"

+
+If that fails (e.g., not installed globally), try:
+
+```bash
+npm root -g
+```
+
+Then look for `@symerian/symi/` inside that directory.
+
+Store the result as `SYMI_ROOT` for the rest of this session.

+## Step 2: Key Directory Layout
+
+Once you have `SYMI_ROOT`, these are your key directories:

+## Step 3: Common Tasks
+
+### Modify Glass UI Theme/Styles
+
+1. Find: `SYMI_ROOT/dist/control-ui/css/style.css`
+2. **Back up first**: `cp style.css style.css.bak`
+3. Edit the CSS file directly
+4. Refresh the browser — changes take effect immediately (no rebuild needed)
+
+### Modify Glass UI Behavior
+
+1. Find: `SYMI_ROOT/dist/control-ui/js/app.js` (or other JS files)
+2. **Back up first**: `cp app.js app.js.bak`
+3. Edit the JavaScript file
+4. Refresh the browser
+
+### Read Your Own Version
+

+### Read Your Configuration
+
+Your config file is at `~/.symi/symi.json`. Read it to understand your current settings.
+
+### Inspect Your Sessions
+
+Session transcripts are at `~/.symi/agents/main/sessions/`. Each `.jsonl` file is one conversation.

+### Inspect Your Memory
+
+Memory databases are at `~/.symi/state/memory/`. These are SQLite files.
+
+## Important Rules
+
+- **Always back up before modifying** any file in `dist/`. Changes to built files are overwritten on upgrade.
+- **dist/ files are production builds** — they are minified/bundled. You can still read and edit them but they may be harder to navigate than source.
+- **Never modify node_modules/** — changes are lost on `npm install`.
+- **CSS changes are safe** — `style.css` is not minified and can be edited freely.
+- **JavaScript changes are riskier** — syntax errors will break the UI. Always back up.
+- If asked to make permanent changes that survive upgrades, the user should modify the source repository (`~/projects/symi/glass-ui/`) and rebuild instead.
