+ClawMongo's selective agentic search is **architecturally ahead of every open-source memory system reviewed** in two critical dimensions: (1) deterministic query classification with multi-pass orchestration, and (2) hard constraint enforcement at the retrieval layer rather than via prompt engineering. No other system in this review implements both.
+
+The closest competitor in search sophistication is **Zep**, which implements hybrid search (vector + BM25) with reranking and temporal awareness, but lacks multi-pass retrieval and query classification. **Mem0** is the most popular memory layer but uses single-pass vector search with basic metadata filtering. **Letta (MemGPT)** takes a fundamentally different approach -- the LLM itself decides when and how to search memory via tool calls, making it "agentic" in the agent-decides-the-search sense but not in the orchestrated-multi-pass sense.

+
+### What ClawMongo Is Doing Uniquely Well
+
+1. **Query classification driving retrieval strategy** -- No other system does this. The 6-type classification (direct, family, comparison, temporal, scoped, multi-hop) with per-type pass planning is genuinely novel in this space. This is ClawMongo's biggest differentiator.
+
+2. **Hard constraint enforcement at the retrieval layer** -- Post-retrieval rejection of results that violate time ranges or evidence requirements. Every other system either pre-filters at the DB level (lossy if the DB index is approximate) or relies on the LLM to judge (non-deterministic). ClawMongo does both: DB-level pre-filtering AND post-retrieval enforcement.
