A type is sound only when its predicates check what they claim, its generics are used consistent with their actual variance, its conditional branches are all reachable, its `satisfies`/annotation choice matches what the call site needs, its branded types cannot be forged, and every escape hatch is justified rather than laundering an unmodelled value.
