+# Codebase Design
+
+For review/cleanup, consult references/requesting-code-review/GUIDE.md and
+references/simplify-code/GUIDE.md only as supporting methods. Review the actual
+task diff, preserve unrelated work, prioritize behavioral defects, and run the
+repository's checks. Use independent reviewers only when supported; otherwise
+state that review was self-performed. Do not invent subagent tools, auto-commit,
+or stage unrelated files. Existing user authorization governs fixes; upstream
+blanket approval, tool names and automatic-commit instructions do not apply.
+
+For implementation handoff acceptance, use references/sdlc-review/GUIDE.md:
+map criteria to evidence and vary artifact/execution/contract review lenses.
+Report the verdict without invoking an upstream Kanban state transition.
+
+Design **deep modules**: a lot of behaviour behind a small interface, placed at a clean seam, testable through that interface. Use this language and these principles wherever code is being designed or restructured. The aim is leverage for callers, locality for maintainers, and testability for everyone.
+
+## Glossary
+
+Use these terms exactly — don't substitute "component," "service," "API," or "boundary." Consistent language is the whole point.
+
+**Module** — anything with an interface and an implementation. Deliberately scale-agnostic: a function, class, package, or tier-spanning slice. _Avoid_: unit, component, service.
+
+**Interface** — everything a caller must know to use the module correctly: the type signature, but also invariants, ordering constraints, error modes, required configuration, and performance characteristics. _Avoid_: API, signature (too narrow — they refer only to the type-level surface).
+
+**Implementation** — what's inside a module, its body of code. Distinct from **Adapter**: a thing can be a small adapter with a large implementation (a Postgres repo) or a large adapter with a small implementation (an in-memory fake). Reach for "adapter" when the seam is the topic; "implementation" otherwise.
+
+**Depth** — leverage at the interface: the amount of behaviour a caller (or test) can exercise per unit of interface they have to learn. A module is **deep** when a large amount of behaviour sits behind a small interface, **shallow** when the interface is nearly as complex as the implementation.
+
+**Seam** _(Michael Feathers)_ — a place where you can alter behaviour without editing in that place; the *location* at which a module's interface lives. Where to put the seam is its own design decision, distinct from what goes behind it. _Avoid_: boundary (overloaded with DDD's bounded context).
+
+**Adapter** — a concrete thing that satisfies an interface at a seam. Describes *role* (what slot it fills), not substance (what's inside).
+
+**Leverage** — what callers get from depth: more capability per unit of interface they learn. One implementation pays back across N call sites and M tests.
+
+**Locality** — what maintainers get from depth: change, bugs, knowledge, and verification concentrate in one place rather than spreading across callers. Fix once, fixed everywhere.
+
+## Deep vs shallow
+
+**Deep module** = small interface + lots of implementation:

+When designing an interface, ask:
+
+- Can I reduce the number of methods?
+- Can I simplify the parameters?
+- Can I hide more complexity inside?
+
+## Principles
+
+- **Depth is a property of the interface, not the implementation.** A deep module can be internally composed of small, mockable, swappable parts — they just aren't part of the interface. A module can have **internal seams** (private to its implementation, used by its own tests) as well as the **external seam** at its interface.
+- **The deletion test.** Imagine deleting the module. If complexity vanishes, it was a pass-through. If complexity reappears across N callers, it was earning its keep.
+- **The interface is the test surface.** Callers and tests cross the same seam. If you want to test *past* the interface, the module is probably the wrong shape.
+- **One adapter means a hypothetical seam. Two adapters means a real one.** Don't introduce a seam unless something actually varies across it.
+
+## Designing for testability
+
+Good interfaces make testing natural:
+
+1. **Accept dependencies, don't create them.**
+

+3. **Small surface area.** Fewer methods = fewer tests needed. Fewer params = simpler test setup.
+
+## Relationships
+
+- A **Module** has exactly one **Interface** (the surface it presents to callers and tests).
+- **Depth** is a property of a **Module**, measured against its **Interface**.
+- A **Seam** is where a **Module**'s **Interface** lives.
+- An **Adapter** sits at a **Seam** and satisfies the **Interface**.
+- **Depth** produces **Leverage** for callers and **Locality** for maintainers.
+
+## Rejected framings
+
+- **Depth as ratio of implementation-lines to interface-lines** (Ousterhout): rewards padding the implementation. We use depth-as-leverage instead.
+- **"Interface" as the TypeScript `interface` keyword or a class's public methods**: too narrow — interface here includes every fact a caller must know.
+- **"Boundary"**: overloaded with DDD's bounded context. Say **seam** or **interface**.

+# Pre-Commit Code Verification
+
+Automated verification pipeline before code lands. Static scans, baseline-aware
+quality gates, an independent reviewer subagent, and an auto-fix loop.
+
+**Core principle:** Prefer independent review; self-review must be clearly labeled.
+
+## When to Use
+
+- After implementing a feature or bug fix, before `git commit` or `git push`
+- When user says "commit", "push", "ship", "done", "verify", or "review before merge"
+- After completing a task with 2+ file edits in a git repo
+- After each task in subagent-driven-development (the two-stage review)
+
+Scale checks to risk. Documentation links and CI/release configuration still need
+their relevant contracts; explicitly record any user-requested skipped checks.
+
+**This skill vs github:** This skill verifies YOUR changes before committing.
+`github` reviews OTHER people's PRs on GitHub with inline comments.
+
+## Step 1 — Get the diff
+

+Read both staged and unstaged patches, plus each task-owned untracked file.

+## Step 2 — Static security scan
+
+Scan the entire task diff, including new files. Matches are leads, not verdicts;
+trace callers and trust boundaries before reporting. TASK_DIFF below is a
+task-owned evidence file containing BOTH diff layers and new-file contents from
+Step 1, not the Git index alone. Do not stage or alter source to generate it.

+## Step 3 — Baseline tests and linting
+
+Detect the project language and run the appropriate tools. Capture the failure
+identities BEFORE your changes when an isolated baseline checkout is available.
+Never stash/reset the shared worktree to obtain a baseline. Otherwise explicitly
+mark baseline unknown. Compare failing test identities, not only counts.
+

+**Baseline comparison:** If baseline was clean and your changes introduce failures,
+that's a regression. Compare exact failures and report unrelated failures too.
+Record each command's exit status immediately; a later passing command must not
+replace a failing command's result. Retain full logs, not only tail output.
+
+## Step 4 — Self-review checklist
+
+Quick scan before dispatching the reviewer:
+
+- [ ] No hardcoded secrets, API keys, or credentials
+- [ ] Input validation on user-provided data
+- [ ] SQL queries use parameterized statements
+- [ ] File operations validate paths (no traversal)
+- [ ] External calls have error handling (try/catch)
+- [ ] No debug print/console.log left behind
+- [ ] No commented-out code
+- [ ] New code has tests (if test suite exists)
+
+## Step 5 — Independent reviewer subagent
+
+Use an independent reviewer when the actual tool and budget permit. Otherwise
+apply the same checklist yourself and label the result self-review. One-shot
+execution is not permission to claim independent approval.
+
+Call `delegate_task` directly — it is NOT available inside execute_code or scripts.
+
+The reviewer gets the task scope, complete diff, scan results and read access to
+callers/contracts. Fail-closed: an unparseable verdict is not approval.

+- **False positives** — if reviewer flags something intentional, note it in fix prompt

+# SDLC Review Skill
+
+Independently verify a handed-off deliverable against its original acceptance
+criteria. This is a supporting method for codebase-design, not a Kanban worker
+entry. Read the actual task specification, handoff and prior findings through
+available tools. No upstream kanban_* tools, environment flags or automatic
+complete/block transitions are authorized by this guide.
+
+## Verdict contract
+
+Return one review verdict: approve, request_changes, or needs_decision. Each
+must include criterion-to-evidence mappings, exact checks and unresolved gaps.
+This is a report, not a mutation of task lifecycle. Only the task owner and the
+platform's real authorization/state protocol may transition a task.
+
+## Review Lenses
+
+Vary how you look at the work on each round instead of repeating the same inspection. Decorrelated lenses catch different defect classes: a cold read of the artifact surfaces design and correctness problems that the implementer's narrative would have framed away, execution surfaces claims that do not reproduce, and a strict contract audit surfaces quiet scope drift. Repeating the round-1 lens on round 3 mostly re-finds what round 1 already found.
+
+Determine the current round from the history the task record already gives you: count the `changes_requested` entries in the "Prior attempts on this task" section of your worker context (also visible as prior runs in the task record). The current review round is that count plus one. Round 1 therefore shows zero `changes_requested` attempts; round 2 shows one; and so on.
+

+The baseline duties in the Procedure section still apply on every round; the lens sets which inspection you lead with and weight most heavily.

+### Lens variation for ad-hoc review fan-outs
+
+The same principle applies outside the Kanban review lane. When spawning multiple parallel reviewers via `delegate_task`, give each reviewer a different lens — one diff-only brief, one full-context brief, one checkout-and-run brief — rather than identical briefs. Identical briefs produce correlated verdicts and duplicate findings; varied briefs cover more defect classes for the same review spend.
+
+## Procedure
+
+### 1. Orient from the durable task record
+
+Read the task record and identify:
+
+- the original task body and acceptance criteria;
+- the latest implementation summary and structured metadata;
+- changed files, commit identifiers, and test evidence;
+- comments and decisions from earlier runs;
+- findings from prior review rounds.
+
+Treat the handoff as a claim to verify, not as proof that the work is correct.
+
+### 2. Compare requested behavior with delivered behavior
+
+Map every acceptance criterion to concrete implementation or output evidence. Note omissions, changed semantics, and unrelated scope before deciding whether to run deeper checks.
+
+For code work:
+
+1. Use `read_file` and `search_files` to inspect the changed paths and their callers.
+2. Use `terminal` to inspect the diff and run the project's existing focused tests, lint, type checks, or build commands.
+3. Exercise the reported failure path and at least one ordinary control path when practical.
+4. Check error handling, edge cases, concurrency boundaries, data preservation, security boundaries, and cross-platform behavior relevant to the change.
+5. Confirm that tests assert behavior rather than merely snapshotting source text or constants.
+
+For non-code work:
+
+1. Inspect the complete deliverable rather than only its summary.
+2. Check correctness, completeness, formatting, and provenance.
+3. Validate referenced URLs or external facts with the appropriate native tools when they affect the verdict.
+
+### 3. Choose one verdict
+
+#### Approve
+
+Approve only when the acceptance criteria are satisfied and the evidence is sufficient. Call:
+

+Populate every evidence/check field with actual results; an empty example is not approval.
+Include the exact checks that passed and any bounded caveat that does not block acceptance.

+#### Request changes
+
+Use this for specific, correctable defects. First record actionable findings:

+Then return the same task to its implementer:

+Record this verdict for the original implementer; do not change task state.

+State where the defect is, how it reproduces, why it violates the task, and what minimum outcome would resolve it. The transition does not use blocker recurrence accounting.

+#### Escalate
+
+Use escalation only when the reviewer and implementer cannot resolve the problem without a human decision or external prerequisite:

+Explain the blocked decision and the smallest information needed to continue.

+### 4. Preserve role separation
+
+Do not edit the implementation while acting as reviewer. Request changes and let the implementer produce the next candidate; then independently verify that candidate in the next review run.
+
+## Pitfalls
+
+- **Rubber-stamping:** A passing handoff summary is not independent evidence.
+- **Reviewer implementation:** Editing the deliverable hides ownership and weakens the re-review boundary.
+- **Vague findings:** “Needs work” does not give the implementer a reproducible correction target.
+- **Style-only blocking:** Do not request changes for preference-level nits when behavior and repository standards are satisfied.
+- **Skipping prior rounds:** Re-review must confirm both the requested corrections and preservation of previously passing behavior.
+- **Using blockers for ordinary rework:** Correctable defects belong in `requested-changes verdict`; reserve `needs-decision verdict` for genuine external blockers or human decisions.
+- **Completing without evidence:** Every approval summary must name the checks or artifacts actually inspected.
+
+## Verification
+
+Before submitting the verdict, confirm:
+
+- [ ] The task record was read for the current task and run.
+- [ ] Every acceptance criterion was mapped to evidence.
+- [ ] The actual deliverable was inspected.
+- [ ] Relevant focused checks were run or an explicit reason was recorded when execution was impossible.
+- [ ] Prior requested changes were re-tested on re-review.
+- [ ] Unrelated regressions and scope changes were considered.
+- [ ] The report contains exactly one verdict and no unauthorized lifecycle transition.
+- [ ] The summary contains concrete, non-secret evidence.
+- [ ] No implementation files were edited by the reviewer.
