+# Discovery Service Enhancement - Implementation Plan
+
+## What We Built
+
+Added two new background workers to the `pioneer-discovery-service`:
+
+1. **Price Discovery Worker** (`src/workers/price-discovery.worker.ts`)
+   - Tests free price APIs (CoinGecko, Blockchain.com, CoinPaprika, etc.)
+   - Monitors primary assets (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) for empty prices
+   - Sends Discord alerts for critical issues
+
+2. **DApp Investigator Worker** (`src/workers/dapp-investigator.worker.ts`)
+   - Deep investigation of dApps (contracts, social, TVL, security)
+   - Risk scoring (0-100)
+   - Automatic whitelist recommendations
+
+## Why This Approach?
+
+### ❌ **BAD**: Adding alerts to pioneer-server
+
+The initial approach of adding price monitoring directly to `pioneer-server` was wrong because:
+
+- Blocks user-facing API requests
+- Price checking takes 1-5 seconds per asset
+- Testing multiple APIs takes minutes
+- Failures impact response times
+- Not scalable
+
+### ✅ **GOOD**: Using pioneer-discovery-service
+
+The `pioneer-discovery-service` is **designed for background work**:
+
+- Runs on its own schedule (cron)
+- Isolated from user requests
+- Can take minutes/hours without impacting users
+- Easy to scale independently
+- Perfect for heavy lifting
+
+## Current Status

+### ⚠️ Needs Work
+
+The Discord integration is **intentionally loose-coupled**:
+

+   - These were the wrong place to add this logic

+By moving to discovery-service:
+- ✅ Clean separation
+- ✅ Easy to test standalone
+- ✅ Scalable
+- ✅ Right tool for the job

+**"Make Requirements Less Dumb":**

+Original requirement: "Alert when prices are empty"
+
+Better requirement: "Monitor prices and data quality in background, alert appropriately"
+
+This led to:
+- Discovering free data sources
+- Testing API health
+- Comprehensive dApp investigation
+- All in the right place
+
+## Summary
+
+**What NOT to do:**
+- ❌ Don't add heavy background work to pioneer-server
+- ❌ Don't block API requests with slow operations
+- ❌ Don't tightly couple services
+
+**What TO do:**
+- ✅ Use discovery-service for background jobs
+- ✅ Keep services loosely coupled
+- ✅ Test standalone first
+- ✅ Add integration when needed
+

+
+## Overview
+
+The Price Discovery Worker is a background service that runs as part of the Pioneer Discovery Service to:
+
+1. **Discover Alternative Price Sources** - Find and test free Bitcoin and cryptocurrency price APIs
+2. **Monitor Primary Assets** - Check for empty/missing prices on critical assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.
+3. **Send Discord Alerts** - Notify when primary assets have empty prices (rate limited to 1 per 24h per asset)
+4. **Maintain Source Database** - Track which price sources are working and their performance
+
+## Why in Discovery Service?
+
+Price discovery is **isolated background work** that should NOT block the main pioneer-server API responses. By running in the discovery service:
+
+- ✅ Runs on its own schedule (hourly cron)
+- ✅ Doesn't impact API response times
+- ✅ Can take minutes to test all sources
+- ✅ Failures don't affect user-facing APIs
+- ✅ Can be scaled independently
