+additional rights over part of the repository; it takes nothing away.

+The documentation **text** in `docs/` and `apps/docs/` — the Markdown files
+and the prose in them — is additionally licensed under the Creative Commons
+Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0),
+<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/>. You may use that text under
+either license, at your option, including for a Competing Use. Attribution is
+required: name Orcaops Inc. and link back to the source.
+
+The carve-out covers documentation, not machinery. Source code, build
+tooling, and site scaffolding that happen to live under those directories
+remain under the Terms and Conditions above, which is also why the manifest
+in `apps/docs/` declares the FSL rather than CC BY 4.0.
+
+Brand assets are **not** carved out. Everything under
+`apps/docs/content/public/` — the favicon, the orca mark, and the wordmark, in
+every variant — stays under the Terms and Conditions above and is excluded
+from the CC BY 4.0 grant. A permissive grant over those files would license
+copying and modification of the marks themselves for a Competing Use, which
+`TRADEMARKS.md` exists to refuse; copyright and trademark are separate rights,
+and this carve-out withholds both.
+
+## Third-Party Components
+
+Parts of this repository are third-party source under their own licenses,
+with their own notices alongside them:
+
+- `packages/diff-render/` vendors MIT-licensed source — see
