A pin that names a missing version fails at creation with a 400 — it never falls through to a different version. Without a pin, the role's latest schema always applies: workflow authors who don't care get the current form automatically; authors who depend on a specific field (say, a form that gained `lotNumber` in v3 and the workflow reads it back) pin the version and the round trip stays aligned.
