A large class of consumers validates colors against "HEX, `rgb()`, or `hsl()`" and **silently drops** anything else: Stripe's Appearance API falls back to its own light theme, `d3-color` (so Vega) throws, mapbox-gl rejects even an `#rrggbbaa` tail.
