ISO 4217 embodies the currency abbreviations published by the International Organisation for Standardisation used in international monetary transactions to clearly identify the currency or currencies used. It contains both currently and formerly valid DATEV currency calculator currencies. Each abbreviation comprises three letters. Currencies which are not issued by an individual state or union of countries which is clearly defined by an abbreviation are designated by an initial letter ‘X’. The two subsequent letters then designate the currency itself.
