# Squareone
2
+
3
+
[![Gem Version](https://badge.fury.io/rb/squareone.svg)](https://badge.fury.io/rb/squareone)
4
+
5
+
__Squareone__ is Jekyll site project generator with Gulp task automation work-flow.
6
+
7
+
Jekyll is a great tool we use at Codaye but we find ourselves spending a lot of time trying to set it up with Gulp each time we start a new project. We needed a tool to eliminate that initial friction we encounter so we can get straight to implementing our creative ideas.
8
+
9
+
Squareone is meant to scratch our itch but we made only a few changes to the files Jekyll generates to keep it as generic as possible.
10
+
11
+
12
+
## Installation
13
+
14
+
install Squareone from RubyGems:
15
+
16
+
$ gem install squareone
17
+
18
+
## Usage
19
+
20
+
$ squareone new project-name
21
+
22
+
23
+
## Features
24
+
Jekyll + Gulp = Creative Bliss :). Squareone comes with some defined Gulp tasks which you can modify or add to.
25
+
26
+
- Instant browser reloads as you make file changes.
27
+
- node-sass for faster Sass compilation.
28
+
- Setup for multiple environment (development/production).
29
+
30
+
31
+
## Development
32
+
33
+
After checking out the repo, run `bin/setup` to install dependencies. Then, run `rake spec` to run the tests. You can also run `bin/console` for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.
34
+
35
+
To install this gem onto your local machine, run `bundle exec rake install`. To release a new version, update the version number in `version.rb`, and then run `bundle exec rake release`, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the `.gem` file to [rubygems.org](https://rubygems.org).
36

You’ll find this post in your `_posts` directory. Go ahead and edit it and re-build the site to see your changes. You can rebuild the site in many different ways, but the most common way is to run `jekyll serve`, which launches a web server and auto-regenerates your site when a file is updated.
8
+
9
+
To add new posts, simply add a file in the `_posts` directory that follows the convention `YYYY-MM-DD-name-of-post.ext` and includes the necessary front matter. Take a look at the source for this post to get an idea about how it works.
10

Jekyll also offers powerful support for code snippets:
12
+
13
+
{% highlight ruby %}
14
+
def print_hi(name)
15
+
puts "Hi, #{name}"
16
+
end
17
+
print_hi('Tom')
18
+
#=> prints 'Hi, Tom' to STDOUT.
19
+
{% endhighlight %}
20
+
21
+
Check out the [Jekyll docs][jekyll-docs] for more info on how to get the most out of Jekyll. File all bugs/feature requests at [Jekyll’s GitHub repo][jekyll-gh]. If you have questions, you can ask them on [Jekyll Talk][jekyll-talk].
