# Rack Timestamp Middleware
2
+
3

[![Build Status](https://travis-ci.org/mchaisse/rack-timestamp.svg?branch=master)](https://travis-ci.org/mchaisse/rack-timestamp) [![Dependency Status](https://gemnasium.com/badges/github.com/mchaisse/rack-timestamp.svg)](https://gemnasium.com/github.com/mchaisse/rack-timestamp) [![Code Climate](https://codeclimate.com/github/mchaisse/rack-timestamp/badges/gpa.svg)](https://codeclimate.com/github/mchaisse/rack-timestamp) [![Test Coverage](https://codeclimate.com/github/mchaisse/rack-timestamp/badges/coverage.svg)](https://codeclimate.com/github/mchaisse/rack-timestamp/coverage)

+
5
+
`Rack::Timestamp` adds a timestamp to the Rack environment. By using this middleware at the top of the stack, it is usefull to **know exactly when the request has been processed by the server**. It will prevent `Time.now` to be spoiled by the execution time of the other middlewares and/or code within controllers/models/libs...
6
+
7
+
## Installation
8
+
9
+
Add this line to your application's Gemfile:
10
+
11
+
```ruby
12
+
gem 'rack-timestamp', '~> 1.0'
13
+
```
14
+
15
+
And then execute:
16
+
17
+
$ bundle
18
+
19
+
Or install it yourself as:
20
+
21
+
$ gem install rack-timestamp
22
+
23
+
## Usage
24
+
25
+
It is recommended to add the `Rack::Timestamp` middleware at the top of the stack in `config/application.rb`
26
+
27
+
```ruby
28
+
config.middleware.insert_before 0, Rack::Timestamp
29
+
```
30
+
31
+
Then in your app:
32
+
33
+
```ruby
34
+
puts env['rack.timestamp']
35
+
=> 1472194171.28057
36
+
```
37
+
38
+
## Running tests
39
+
40
+
To run tests:
41
+
42
+
$ bundle exec rake spec
43
+
44
+
## Development
45
+
46
+
To install this gem for development purposes:
47
+
48
+
```shell
49
+
$ gem install bundler # note: you don't need to do this if you already have it installed
50
+
$ git clone git://github.com/mchaisse/rack-timestamp.git
51
+
$ cd rack-timestamp
52
+
$ bundle install
53
+
```
54
+
55
+
