# Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct
2
+
3
+
## Our Pledge
4
+
5
+
In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as
6
+
contributors and maintainers pledge to making participation in our project and
7
+
our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body
8
+
size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience,
9
+
nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and
10
+
orientation.
11
+
12
+
## Our Standards
13
+
14
+
Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment
15
+
include:
16
+
17
+
* Using welcoming and inclusive language
18
+
* Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
19
+
* Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
20
+
* Focusing on what is best for the community
21
+
* Showing empathy towards other community members
22
+
23
+
Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:
24
+
25
+
* The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or
26
+
advances
27
+
* Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
28
+
* Public or private harassment
29
+
* Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or electronic
30
+
address, without explicit permission
31
+
* Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a
32
+
professional setting
33
+
* Using overtly pedantic language
34
+
35
+
## Our Responsibilities
36
+
37
+
Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable
38
+
behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in
39
+
response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.
40
+
41
+
Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or
42
+
reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions
43
+
that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to ban temporarily or
44
+
permanently any contributor for other behaviors that they deem inappropriate,
45
+
threatening, offensive, or harmful.
46
+
47
+
## Scope
48
+
49
+
This Code of Conduct applies both within project spaces and in public spaces
50
+
when an individual is representing the project or its community. Examples of
51
+
representing a project or community include using an official project e-mail
52
+
address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed
53
+
representative at an online or offline event. Representation of a project may be
54
+
further defined and clarified by project maintainers.
55
+
56
+
## Enforcement
57
+
58
+
Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be
59
+
reported by contacting the project team at paul@wework.com. All
60
+
complaints will be reviewed and investigated and will result in a response that
61
+
is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances. The project team is
62
+
obligated to maintain confidentiality with regard to the reporter of an incident.
63
+
Further details of specific enforcement policies may be posted separately.
64
+
65
+
Project maintainers who do not follow or enforce the Code of Conduct in good
66
+
faith may face temporary or permanent repercussions as determined by other
67
+
members of the project's leadership.
68
+
69
+
## Attribution

# FreezeTag
2
+
3
+
Howdy,
4
+
5
+
The de facto tagging library for almost every Ruby on Rails project has been [Acts As Taggable On Gem](https://github.com/mbleigh/acts-as-taggable-on) which provides a simple interface for polymorphic tagging of your models.
6
+
7
+
As excellent and useful as ActsAsTaggable is, this library is attempt to reconcile some shortcomings:
8
+
9
+
1. Freeze tag allows for a more "stateless" approach to tagging.
10
+
11
+
Tags are never deleted, instead they have an "ended_at" column, which can be updated to make them active or inactive.
12
+
13
+
2. The associations are more simple.
14
+
15
+
Tags are held in a single table which holds the content of the tag (its name) and the association back to the model instance its attached to.
16
+
This has some advantages including simpler querying, joining, etc., but obviously drawbacks as well.
17
+
18
+
## Installation
19
+
20
+
Add this line to your application's Gemfile:
21
+
22
+
```ruby
23
+
gem 'freeze_tag'
24
+
```
25
+
26
+
And then execute:
27
+
28
+
$ bundle
29
+
30
+
Create the tables:
31
+
32
+
1. Run the installer:
33
+
34
+
```
35
+
$ rails g freeze_tag:install
36
+
```
37
+
38
+
This adds a migration to create your "freeze_tags" table
39
+
40
+
2. Confirm your implementation.
41
+
42
+
Since Freeze tags creates a polymorphic association between tags and models, its necessary to confirm the type of primary keys the models in your application use. Open the migration and choose the correct option for you.
43
+
44
+
3. Run the migration
45
+
46
+
```
47
+
rake db:migrate
48
+
```
49
+
50
+
4. Add:
51
+
```ruby
52
+
include FreezeTag::Taggable
53
+
```
54
+
to the top of any model you'd like to start tagging.
55
+
56
+
5. Case sensitivity, add:
57
+
```ruby
58
+
def self.freeze_tag_case_sensitive
59
+
true
60
+
end
61
+
```
62
+
To your model and all tags will be saved as lowercase
63
+
64
+
#### Tagging a record:
65
+
66
+
A single tag:
67
+
68
+
```ruby
69
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag(as: "Fancy")
70
+
```
71
+
72
+
Or apply multiple tags:
73
+
74
+
```ruby
75
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag(as: ["Fancy", "Schmancy"])
76
+
```
77
+
78
+
Or apply multiple tags and expire all other ones:
79
+
80
+
```ruby
81
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag(as: ["Fancy", "Schmancy"], expire_others: true)
82
+
```
83
+
84
+
##### Tagging a record, with list:
85
+
There may be times you want multiple lists of tags, i.e. users with skills, AND hobbies
86
+
87
+
All the same methods above work, simple pass a list as an argument.
88
+
89
+
```ruby
90
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag(as: "Web Design", list: "Skills")
91
+
```
92
+
93
+
#### Accessing tags:
94
+
95
+
All the current "active" tags as a simple array of strings.
96
+
97
+
```ruby
98
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag_list
99
+
["Happy", "Go", "Lucky"]
100
+
```
101
+
102
+
All the tags as a simple array of strings.
103
+
104
+
```ruby
105
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag_list(only_active: false)
106
+
["Happy", "Go", "Lucky", "Sad"]
107
+
```
108
+
109
+
All the tags, in a list, as a simple array of strings.
110
+
111
+
```ruby
112
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tag_list(list: "Skills")
113
+
["Web Design", "Illustration"]
114
+
```
115
+
116
+
Active Record association of all tags
117
+
118
+
```ruby
119
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tags
120
+
```
121
+
122
+
Active Record association of all "active" tags
123
+
```ruby
124
+
my_model_instance.active_freeze_tags
125
+
```
126
+
127
+
You can change queries to the above to filter by anything.
128
+
```ruby
129
+
my_model_instance.freeze_tags.where(list: "Skills")
130
+
my_model_instance.active_freeze_tags.where(list: "Skills")
131
+
```
132
+
133
+
#### Retrieving records that have been tagged:
134
+
135
+
Currently tagged with (only unexpired)
136
+
```ruby
137
+
MyModel.freeze_tagged(as: "Fancy")
138
+
```
139
+
140
+
Previously tagged with (only expired)
141
+
```ruby
142
+
MyModel.previously_freeze_tagged(as: "Fancy")
143
+
```
144
+
145
+
Ever tagged with (expired and unexpired)
146
+
```ruby
147
+
MyModel.ever_freeze_tagged(as: "Fancy")
148
+
```
149
+
150
+
All the above methods work with a "list" argument as well
151
+
```ruby
152
+
MyModel.ever_freeze_tagged(as: "Fancy", list: "Skills")
153
+
```
154
+
155
+
#### Accessing the model directly.
156
+
157
+
```ruby
158
+
FreezeTag::Tag
159
+
```
160
+
161
+
Will give you direct access to the freeze tags table in a very standard way.
