# EventMachine::Test
2
+
3
+
Small library for testing asynchronous eventmachine code. It is [inspired by jasmine][1].
4
+
5
+
Each example spins up it's own reactor, you make your expectations/assertions, and you call a done callback when you've finished.
6
+
If your example takes too long, it throws an error.
7
+
8
+
## Installation
9
+
10
+
Add this line to your application's Gemfile:
11
+
12
+
```ruby
13
+
gem 'event_machine-test'
14
+
```
15
+
16
+
And then execute:
17
+
18
+
$ bundle
19
+
20
+
Or install it yourself as:
21
+
22
+
$ gem install event_machine-test
23
+
24
+
## Usage
25
+
26
+
```ruby
27
+
28
+
describe YourLib do
29
+
30
+
include EventMachine::Test.new(5) # Pass timeout in seconds
31
+
32
+
it 'does something' do
33
+
em_test do |done|
34
+
35
+
# Do some actual useful asynchronous stuff, then call done when you've finished
36
+
EventMachine.add_timer(1) do
37
+
expect(true).to eq(true)
38
+
done.call
39
+
end
40
+
41
+
end
42
+
end
43
+
44
+
end
45
+
```
46
+
47
+
## How it works
48
+
1. Spins up eventmachine inside a block
49
+
2. Sets a timer to throw a `TimeoutError`
50
+
3. Runs a block, passing a done callback which throws a symbol
51
+
4. Symbol is caught outside eventmachine reactor, and the block terminates (with no error).
52
+
53
+
54
+
## Contributing

2. Create your feature branch (`git checkout -b my-new-feature`)
58
