+## Constellations
+
+Most of the constellation names are standard. However, there are a
+couple of special exceptions. One is the constellation _Bootes_, which
+might be translated as _Boote_, _Bovaro_, or _Bifolco_. Here we use
+_Boote_ since this is what Stellarium uses, as well as the Italian
+association for amateur astronomers (UAI). The other exception is the
+constellation _Norma_, which is sometimes translated as _Regolo_ or,
+more rarely, _Squadra_. The most common translation seems to be
+_Regolo_, so it is used here.

+## Stars
+
+There are just a handful of stars whose names are routinely translated
+in Italian (i.e., _Regolo_, _Arturo_, _Sirio_, etc.).  All sources I
+have consulted agree on the translations, so there should be no
+problems here.

+## Deep Sky Objects
+
+DSOs are problematic. The scientific literature is all in English, so
+there are no standard Italian translations. The names used here are
+mostly taken from Stellarium or from the Italian Wikipedia.

+Sometimes more than one translation is used, e.g., the Owl cluster
+(NGC 457) might be referred to as _Ammasso Libellula_, _Ammasso
+Civetta_ or _Ammasso Gufo_ (_civetta_ and _gufo_ are both translations
+of "owl", although they refer to different birds); Stellarium prefers
+_libellula_, so this is used.  Another example is "Brocchi's Cluster"
+(Collinder 399), which is translated as _Ammasso di Brocchi_,
+_Attaccapanni_, or _Appendiabiti_ (the latter two meaning
